Does anyone on the list know the age you needed to be in the early 1800s in order to be exempt from the poll tax? Could someone be exempted for reasons of infirmity even earlier than such age? My ancestor, Charles Hamilton, was exempted by court order in 1805 "on account of age & infirmity." I'm trying to determine whether this information can help me pin down his year of birth.
