    3. A brief sketch of Moses Wright Sr. MOSES WRIGHT was born 22 October 1788 in Lincoln County, Kentucky and died 17 September 1871 and was buried in the Wright Hollow Cemetery about 5 miles from Monticello. In 1990, Moses Wright’s gravestone was under dirt. He was the son of Jesse Wright and Dorothy "Dosha" Peyton and the grandson of Isaac Wright of Amherst County, Virginia. Moses married twice, first on 04 March 1814 by Elliott Jones, a Justice of the Peace in Wayne County, Kentucky to NANCY DICKERSON, daughter of William. The Bondsman was Urlin East. Nancy was born 1794 in Orange County, Virginia and died about 1835 in Wayne, soon after her son Jesse was born. Moses married second on 03 July 1836 by Roger Oatts, Justice of the Peace to SARAH NICHOLAS in 1836. Sally was born 1803 in Kentucky and died 4 December 1888 in Clio, Wayne County, Iowa where she had settled with her son, Simeon shortly after Moses died. She applied there for Widow's Pension, towards his service in the War of 1812. In 1850 Van Buren County, Iowa, other Wrights were listed in census: Alexander, Ansell, Evender, Jesse, John, two Mary’s and a William Wright. Sarah Nicholas’ mother was Rachel, daughter of William and Sarah Cooper. Rachel was born 1768 in that part of North Carolina that became Tennessee and was living with Moses and Sally in the 1850 census. Rachel died 11 December 1855 at age 90 years. In 1820, Moses and Nancy had one daughter, two sons, and two of her sisters living with them. Moses became their Guardian after Nancy's father died. By 1830, a daughter and son, born between 1810 and 1820 had left and an additional 4 sons and 2 daughters were born between 1820 and 1830, with a total of 6 males and 3 females. The children of Moses Wright and 1/Nancy Dickerson were all born in Monticello, Wayne County, Kentucky: 1) GEORGE WASHINGTON WRIGHT was born 04 May 1816 in Monticello; married 1841 to Phidella Edgemond. They left Kentucky early and went to Missouri before 1845 and were in Iowa by 1850 in Van Buren County. In 1870, George and Phide1la were living in Wayne County, Jefferson Twp., both age 53, born Ky, with a son John W. and his wife and 2 of their children living in the house. George's death record states he died 4 July 1882 (cemetery record says 1881) at age 67 years, 2 months at 5 p.m. He lived in state for 30 years and died in Clio of consumption. Duration of illness, 16 years. Buried in Woodmansee grave yard. Report dated 30 July l881. 2) MOSES WRIGHT JR., born about 1818 in Monticello. Was shown for the first time on the tax list in 1840, age 21. Married 09 Dec 1834 in Wayne Co by Charles L. Higginbotham to MAHALA DEAN. Bondsman, William Dean. Mahala was born about 1817 in Wayne County, Ky; death date and place unknown. Apparently Moses Jr., and Mahala did not get along too well as the tax records of Wayne Co show in 1845, Lower District (one year only) that Mahala Wright was head of house with 2 horses. Moses Wright Jr., was next name listed with 70 acres valued at $100; 1 horse at $30; 2 children age over 5 yrs (b. 1834 to 1840). Moses Wright SR., and other Wrights were living in the Upper District. On 08 May 1850, Mrs. Mahala Wright married STEPHEN ALLEY by S. Popplewell, J.P. Bondsman, John Anderson. The 1850 Census of Wayne gives the names of these two sons living in house of Stephen Alley and Mahala: “William C., age 14 (1836) and James K. 10 (Dec1839). In 1860, Mrs. Mahala Alley was listed as “Mahala Wright” and 1870 Russell Co, KY shows she had given up the Wright and Allen names and reverted back to “Mahala Dean.” Her children were raised as “Deans,” which does not positively mean they were illegitimate. 3) DANIEL PEYTON WRIGHT, born 16 Oct 1819 in Wayne Co., KY, name-sake of Daniel Peyton, son of Philip Peyton; died 1905 and was buried in Albany Cemetery in Clinton Co, KY; married 1/ Malinda ___, who died 1850-2. Malinda and her children are buried in Moses Wright Cemetery in Wayne; Daniel married 2/ ELIZA DICK, daughter of John Dick. After Daniel died, his widow Eliza Dick Wright joined her sons, John and Daniel Jr., in Plainview, TX where Daniel Jr. died in 1943. Other children settled in Oklahoma. Daniel Sr., named his first son "Moses Ellis Wright.” (A letter from Robert Daniel Wright of Wichita, Kansas in 1991 said Moses Ellis, Ellis Valentine and G.W. Wright are not buried with their father, rather, their mother Malinda, the 1st wife of Daniel Peyton Wright. He found Malinda’s grave buried under dirt). 4) ARTAMETHA WRIGHT, born 15 Feb 1822 in Monticello; married John RUTHERFORD/Retherford. 5) SUSANNAH “Susan” WRIGHT, born 20 Dec 1823.
