    1. Re: Finding Cemeteries in Wayne County
    2. Jerry, there is no cost to go to that website. If you use the basic "TopoZone", it is free. There is a charge for the "pro" version. But I've been able to find cemeteries using the basic version. Just set the map size to "Large" to help you see a larger map, and if the scale is too big, and you want to see more of the surrounding area (zoomed out), in order to get your bearings, change the "View Scale" from 1:50,000 to 1:100,000. You then press update to make the change. If you really want to zoom in, then you can perhaps choose 1:25,000 or less. You can also search for the names of streams, churches, etc. Sometimes the cemeteries aren't named, but if they are associated with a church, you might find the church name there. At the main website, once you choose a cemetery, church, etc. and select it, you can then choose what type of map you want to see this with. Some will show the feature, some do not. Aerial views don't name them. Once you get to the webpage, | under "State or Territory", choose "Kentucky". Then type in "Wayne" for | "County Name". Use the drop down list under "Feature Type" to choose "cemetery". | Then hit the "Send Query" button and the Wayne County Cemeteries will be | listed. There's various ways to look at them. Just click on the cemetery you are | interested in. If you then choose the "Topo Zone" selection, it will show | the location of the cemetery on a topographic map. Make sure you change the map | size to "Large". You can look at the various other map types there to see | which best meets your needs. The aerial photography one is interesting, but I | find that it is hard to use, and you really have to know the roads and | buildings to know what you are looking at, and then move around. | | Anyway, for those of you who are looking for cemeteries this is a great | resource. | | Here is the website for that link: | http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/web_query.gnis_web_query_form | | Have fun hunting!!
