Some of the Coe researchers have been trying to find a descendent of Elvira Davis born 1803 in Kentucky who married Samuel Coe born 1793 from Wilkes County Georgia. They were married May 11, 1826 in Wayne County, Kentucky. They had 11 Children (according to my records: James L. Coe 1827 Leanna Coe 1829 Alice (Alcey) Glasscot Coe 1831 Mary Coe 1833 Samuel W. Coe September 1834 Sarah T. Coe March 25, 1836 Nancy Coe 1839 Greenwood Coe 1840 Anna Marah Coe 1842 Joab O. Coe 1844 Joshua Coe 1847. We are trying to find a female descendent...daughter to daughter to daughter that we can contact. We would like to have a DNA test done in order to connect another line to this line. I have found a name that would be a possible descendent: I have been searching my file for a relative female to female on Elvira. I have found one. She apparently lives in Kentucky but I do not have an address or telephone number. I think they live in Somerset, Kentucky. I have tried the telephone address look up but cannot tell whether or not this is her. Elvira Davis (Samuel Coe) daughter: Alice (Alcey) Glasscot Coe (James M. Markham) Daughter: Eliza Jane Marcum (John R. Troxell) Daughter: Retta Troxell (Rufus Isham Lair) Daughter: Ruby Mary Agnes Lair (Ned E. Davis) Daughter: Brinda Ann Davis (Ted Anderson) Brinda was born June 4, 1953. She is 51 years old and probably lives in the Somerset, Kentucky area. I have not found her yet. Still trying. Does anyone there in the Wayne/Pulaski Kentucky area have any knowledge of this person. I would appreciate it if someone knows of her or anything about this family. ray taylor [email protected]
Good morning, Thank you for all the nice notes regarding the folks on the 1830 Delinquent Tax List. It would really benefit everyone if you would write to the list and tell something about those who left Wayne County as Anna did. Thank you Anna. This info helps everyone to know who they were and what happened to them. There were so many duplication of names, it is hard sometimes to know who was who. Regards, June
Does anyone know what happened to this Lucinda Brewster, when she died, if she had children? "McBeath, Samuel, keeping Lucinda Brewster 10.00" According to a statement made in Fentress Co., TN by her sister, Jane Brewster Kennedy, in the late 1880's she "intermarried" Jim Davis. I can use all the help I get on this one. Thanks Wilma
Hi List! As a BERTRAM (a.k.a. BUTRAM, BUTTRAM, etc.) researcher I want to add my two cents here about the identity of the William BUTRAM on this list to avoid confusion. This William BUTRAM was born about 1800 in North Carolina to Nancy WOODRUFF and Cornelius BUTTRAM, Sr. He married Lavina KEETON on December 21, 1822 in Wayne Co., Kentucky. They were on the 1830 and 1840 Johnson Co., Indiana Census before migrating to Cass Co., Missouri by 1850, then Benton Co., Arkansas by 1860. I would like to know who the parents were of Lavina (KEETON) BUTRAM and to share information about the children of William and Lavina. Thanks! DIVORCES GRANTED BY LEGISLATURE & COURTS IN KENTUCKY, 1792-1849 When Kentucky became a state, the only way to get a divorce was to secure an act of the legislature granting the divorce. Then on January 31, 1809, a law was passed giving circuit courts authority to grant divorces on certain grounds. But the Court of Appeals soon held that circuit courts had no jurisdiction except by statute. So for a period, there were two ways to obtain a divorce. One way was for both parties to ask for and to obtain a special act of the legislature. The other was for one party to sue under the 1809 statute, qualifying on the grounds listed in the statute. In some cases, the legislature referred the case to circuit court for judicial findings. When the third Kentucky constitution was written in 1849, the legislature was forbidden to grant divorces. After that, divorces were granted only by circuit courts. That is until 1972, when divorces were changed to "dissolution of marriage." If you are looking for a divorce in Kentucky from 1792 to 1849, contact the Kentucky Historical Society. If they do not have a record, it would pay to look in the circuit court clerk's records in the county in which the couple lived. Many of the wives sued their husbands for desertion and adultery. The women requested and usually were restored to all rights and privileges of unmarried woman and maiden name restored.

Oh, we have another search on our hands - may I get some help with finding the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, Parmleysville, Ky. Thanks ever so much! Dee
Information regarding the stage coach that ran from Monticello to Burnside is on my website: BURTON STAGECOACH www.junebaldwinbork.com/wayne/1a/brtnstag.htm
In the past, I had some short conversations with Judy Dykes and I've tried her old e-mail to no avail - I'm sincerely hoping to reach her by way of these mailing lists. Judy, I would like to invite you to a family reunion on this Sunday in Oneida. Please respond. Dee

Does anybody know for sure who owned and operated the stage coach when it was in operation back around 1900. I believe i have heard it was a Bertram man but i,m not sure. The coach ran from monticello to burnside,it could have gotten on the ferry at Burnside and gone on to Somerset not sure. Thanks Barb.
Anna, there is a Rock Creek in present day Pickett County, TN. It's north of Pickett State Park (I believe it may even be part of Pickett State Park). During the time of the Civil War, I think that area was part of Scott County, TN. Rock Creek crosses Hwy 154 and is on the road north from Pickett to Wayne County, KY. There was an Alexander Evans (b. abt. 1826) who was living in Fentress County at the time of the 1860 Census. I don't know if this was the same one or not. Gary Norris may know something about him, if he was in the Civil War. I believe Rock Creek in McCreary County was part of Wayne county during the Civil War. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, September 26, 2004 3:00 PM To: [email protected] Subject: KYWAYNE-D Digest V04 #72
Folks, I want to thank all of you who answered my request for information on Rock Creek and the Alek Evans Company during the Civil War in 1865. I thought others might benefit from the many messages and the information I pieced together from them. I am in the process of typing up the original "essay" written in 1939 by the late Myrtle (BERTRAM) DALTON about the BERTRAM family in Wayne Co., Kentucky during the era of the Civil War. I plan to submit it to the GenWeb sites at Wayne Co., KY and McCreary Co., KY for posting. Your answers have helped me make a footnote to the killing of Martin Luther BERTRAM that will make it clearer and more meaningful to all those who read it. Sincerely, Anna Bertram [email protected] From: "Dan Dishman" > I believe there is a Rock Creek in Fentress co Tn , where it is at I do not > know but I have heard of Rock Creek in Tn. From: "KY Gregorys (Marilyn)" Rock Creek is located in what is now McCreary Co (the part that used to be > in Wayne). It's near the county boundry line....that's abt as close as I > can tell you. Sorry...I don't know anything abt the Evans man. From: Lisa L. Leatherman Rock Creek is in McCreary County, KY. Out on 167 in the Mt. Pisgah Community Area like you are going to Picket State Park in TN. You would turn left on one of the Forrest Roads. It's over by the HelmLock Trees in the Forrest service area. No information on Evans Company during the Civil War. Mary From: "Dee Murphy" > Rock Creek in Bellfarm is where my Mother was baptised. I'll bet every > county has a Rock Creek - I would expect this to be a very common name. Dee From: Barb Burke Rock Creek is defintly in McCreary Co. Ky. I've been there, as a matter of I was born about five mile from there. It does border Wayne Co. near Bell Farm. But in is in McCreary Co. I don,t know about the person you were asking about, but I do know a lot of civil war battles were fought in McCreary and Wayne co.One of the biggest battles was fought at Mill Springs In Wayne Co.Ky.There is a civil war cemetary there ,theres also a Rock Creek cemetary. Don,t know for sure if soldiers are buried there but they probably are. Most if not all of Rock Creek is located in Pickett State Park.Hope this helps you if not I know I can get the information from my sister. She has researched the whole area. Sincerley barb. From: Barb Burke Anna: Rock Creek is located off Hwy 92.You take a right at yamacraw bridge or just before you get to it, go up the mountain to cooperative,ky (which by the way is where i was born) cooperative was a coal mining camp about50 years ago.Anyway Rock Creek is about 7-10 miles above co-op.Our family moved to Wayne co. when I was small but we spent every weekend at grandad,s at co-op.I still have dosens of cousins in McCreary and Wayne co. I have one particular cousin that knows that area by each twigg,ha.This is almost a true statement. He hunts and fishes a lot.The park stocked Rock Creek with trout. There are four cemetarys on that road that i have visited. My first cousin Judy King was buried just a mile or so from the actual site of Rock Creek. As far as if the creek flows into Tn. Idon,t know for sure but would assume it does since McCreary co. borders Tn.I personally have no knowledge of Bertrams in McCreary co. but lots of them live in Wayne Co.Rather promenant name in the ! area.As for my sister she is in Hong Kong at this time with her job. I will probably see her Thanksgiving at mother,s They live in Indiana.I now live in Glasgow Ky. which is about ninety miles west of Rock Creek in McCreary. If I can help in anyway would be happy to.I have a brother that lives in Wayne co. at this time.I,m sure he knows more Bertrams than i do.I,ve been gone from Wayne co a long time although i visit often.I,ll try to think of some one you could e-mail over there if Gale my hunting cousin has an e-mail address i,ll get it for you ,i,m pretty sure he does his wife is a teacher and probably needs a p.c. I,ll help if i can Barb. From: "Karen Trammell" > There is a Rock Creek in McCreary Co, not far from the Wayne Co line. at > that time it would probably have been Wayne Co.
