Does anyone know who might have records on the Alexander Graveyard in Monticello, Kentucky? Thanks, in advance. Susan Sexton-Martin
I have not researched this family for many years but after seeing the family of Absalom Davenport in the 1850 Census of Hendricks Co, Indiana, I believe I have found an important clue. John and Nancy Burnett Davenport's son, Absalom named a son GREENVILLE T. DAVENPORT. The "T" stands for THURMAN. This name, Greenville Thurman was used in other Burnett families. One intermarried with the ISHAM HALL family of Virginia and North Carolina. 1850 Hendricks Co, IN p.65B - #900 Eel River Township Absolem Davenport 31 KY (1819); farmer $600 Jennetta 27 KY (1823) John J. 12 KY (1838) Julia Ann 09 KY (1841) William H. 07 KY (1843) GREENVILLE T. 03 KY (1847 Alfred H. 01 KY (1849) I now believe our JOHN DAVENPORT married first to LUCY HALL on 12 December 1791 in Franklin County, Virginia [joining Patrick County]. LUCY HALL was daughter of Isham Hall. I am assuming Lucy died, probably in childbirth before John Davenport married 2/ 13 March 1796 in Patrick Co, VA to NANCY BURNETT. However, if Lucy did die, she had time to have at least 2 or 3 children in 5 years. I thought it odd that the name of Nancy OR Lucy are diminutives of the name Anne, Hannah or Agnes. John Davenport's father was probably old Elisha Davenport listed on the 1830 Census of Wayne Co. Have not found proof. 1830 Wayne Co, Ky Census p.249 ELISHA DAVENPORT 80-90 (born 1740-50) 1 female 30-40 (1790-1800; new wife?) 1 female 00-05 (1825-1830) Elisha living next to Elizabeth Small (widow of Thomas) & Robt. Lockhart, both Burnett connections. Patrick Co, Va joined state of North Carolina. Many, many moved back and forth between the two states.

From all the information we can find, when John Davenport and Nancy (Burnett)Davenport checked out of the Baptist Reform Church in Wayne Co.Ky.they moved to Hendricks Co.(Center Township),Indiana. John is on the 1832 Voter Registration List. He purchased land from the Government on a Land Grant in Eel River Township Hendricks Co.Ind. He sold the land in 1837 and Nancy cosigned. They were on the 1840 census in the 60-70 age group. John was still on the 1842 Tax List, after that we cannot find them. I don't know if they moved or died. Some say Nancy died and is buried in Wayne Co. if this is true, can it be verified? Their son Absalom Davenport and his wife Jennetta(Jones)Davenport and their children are living in Hendricks Co.on the 1850 cinsus. Maybe the old homeplace. John and Nancy's other son was also named John Davenport and he lived and married over in Montgomery Co.Ind. He married Juliann Coons and they had two daughters, both of whom died and Juliann died from complications of childbirth when the second baby was born, then he married Sarah (Coons) Michel's the sister to Juliann. John and Sarah also had two children, a Daughter named Julia Ann and a son named John.Baby John died and mother Sarah also died from complications of his birth. This time he was able to raise the little girl (Julia Ann). John married a third time to Amanda (McCrea) Hill and they had a son Joshua Davenport and that is the one Duane Davenport descends from. We believe there was another son Abraham Davenport,he and his wife Susan (Dewey) Davenport were always very closely related to John and Absalom. When Abraham died Susan and their children moved to Dallas Co.Iowa with John,Absalom and their families. All three of the boys say they were born in Kentucky and their parents were from Virginia. We know for certain that John and Absalom's parents were John and Nancy, we have verification. Does any one have any additional information on this family? Duane has taken the DNA Test and DOES NOT match any Davenports tested yet !!!! Please email us anything you may have. Thank You so much Sincerely Duane and Bettie Davenport

I am doing some family research, and I have hit a brick wall. I need info on Marie Poe, she married a Jim Rains, and had a daughter by the name Manzie Myra Rains (?) She was born in May of 1920, and died around 1938. The daughter I thought died at childbirth, but now think that she died later of the croup. Would like to verify this info. They both are buried at Alexander Graveyard, in Monticello, with unmarked graves. We would like to fix that. But need dates and location of their graves. Any help would be appreciated. Hello to all, I have a question regarding the protection of family cemeteries in Kentucky. If an old family cemetery is located in the middle of a cow pasture, do KY laws give decendants the right to put up a fence around the cemetery whether the property owner wants it or not? Ofcourse it's best to work with the owner....I just need to know what the law states in KY. Thanks for your help, Marilyn ===== Marilyn Gregory Fisher, CC Wayne Co, KYGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~kywayne/wayne.html Wayne Co, KY Cemetery Project http://www.rootsweb.com/~kywaycem/index.html Gregorys of Wayne Co, KY http://www.geocities.com/hoosierma/ _______________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
