    1. Re: [KYWAYNE] denny
    2. I am posting again to ask for any help on a Betsy DENNY who married Archibald WEST in Wayne county in 1829. They then moved on to Indiana. In Indiana, she and her children call her maiden name WORLEY. This is a more than 10 year brick wall. If any Denny researchers have any information that could help me, I would be so very grateful to hear from you..... Janet -- “There are four questions of value in life... What is sacred? 3. Janet, I know how it is to have a brick wall like this. I have several. Did you notice on the 1840 Indiana census that Archibald and his family are surrounded by Wests and Worleys? They are living next door, I believe, to Archibald's father, Alexander. I'm a Denney/Denny researcher, but I haven't any information on these two. If she was a Denney from Wayne County, though, she is part of my line. I truly hope someone out there will have an answer for you. 1. [KYWAYNE] DENNY connections
    2. Hello all DENNY researchers! I am so happy to see that you are out there! I am in desperate need of your help, if you would be so kind. Everyone refers to a marriage license in Wayne Cty for Archibald WEST to Betsy DENNY in Nov 1829. Does anyone know any more about this Betsy? My puzzle is that the child Archibald has about 9 months later lists his mother as Betsy WORLEY....... Her tombstone lists her as Eliz. WORLEY and her birth is supposed to be around 1805 in KY or VA.... Could Betsy (Eliz.) WORLEY have married a DENNY and been a widow at the time she married Archibald? ANY help would be so very much appreciated as she has been my brick wall for 15 years now....... Thank you - Janet

    3. An important difference is that, as mentioned earlier, the Family History Library is willing to do lookups if the book is in their library, and they will copy limited amounts of specifically requested information for a patron. The patron must first research the holdings in the Family History Library, which is not a difficult process. 3. I checked the catalogue (online) of the Allen County library, in Ft. Wayne. There is a book there, published by Frances Marie Thomas Graves, titled William Denney descendants, additions and corrections. Was published in 1986. Rex W. Bertram 132 S. 1. Re: [KYWAYNE] DENNY, James, Rev War Patriot
    2. Marian Sarantha
    3. Carolyn, I tried to continue our discussion off-list but my message to you bounced. As a courtesy I also cc'd Fay Clark who sent information about Richard Denney's WorldConnect site which might have more information on your William. I did access DAR members' website for information on your ancestors James and William. I cannot prove William's relationship to James for you, nor does the name William appear on the scant application information I found. This could indicate that if William is really the son of James, noone from that line has filed for membership in DAR. Further, the new "Research" site for members' only, DAR, does not have extensive information about descendants. DAR membership guidelines prevent members from furnishing hard copy of DAR materials to a non-member, perhaps related to ownership privacy issues, but we are allowed to supply information. But for lack of a link between James and William Denny, you appear to be very close to ready in applying for membership. If you haven't already done so, I'd recommend you contact the Registrar of the DAR chapter nearest your residence, (you can find this information on the "open" [i.e., non-member] DAR website) to let her know of your interest in joining DAR. The job of the Registrar is to assist would-be members through the process, and proof applications and attendant documentation before forwarding them to National DAR. Since I don't know where you live, I can't provide any more information than that given here. Here is what I did find: 1. There is no mention of a William as descendant in the DAR database as of TODAY. A national group of volunteers, including myself, is working feverishly to try to complete some 300,000 (?) or so remaining old applications which have yet to be uploaded to the national database. It is possible that among them is a record of William Denny. 2. The GRC (Genealogical Research Committee) Database Search revealed a number of entries both for James Denny in Virginia state records (six entries total) and for William Denny in Kentucky state records (a total of six). If you contact your closest chapter Registrar you could ask her help in accessing this information. The entries list Series, Volume and Page numbers for references and include court, DAR chapter, and miscellaneous records. Since I don't have access to these, I can't be of further help. I can tell you that among the entries for James Denny are Bible and cemetery records, wills, records of Cedar Grove and Elm ---? Cemeteries held by Borough of Norfolk Chapter, DAR. Oak Hill Cemetery of Danville, VA is mentioned with an index of burials created by Dorothea Henry ---? DAR chapter. For James R. DENNY, Jr., there is an index of entries in induction records and discharges, Vol. A-L and Vol. M-Z, Danville, VA and in the muster roll of Danville, VA in the War with Germany, also by Dorothea Henry Chapter. A listing for James Robert Denny, Sr., from Virginia DAR GRC report, Series 2, Vol. 064, mentions Highland Burial Park, Danville, VA. It is impossible for me to confirm if the latter two are your ancestors. 3. A "Member Search" for James Denny, Ancestor No. A123756 (the Wayne Co., KY Denny), shows Patriotic Service (in lieu of military rank) in State of VA; b. ca 1750, dec. post 1810, Wayne Co., KY. His service source is the Virginia History Magazine of History and Biography, Vol. 9, p. 138, 142, Tax Lists of Henry Co., VA, compiled by Lela C. Adams. His service consisted of a signed oath of allegiance in Henry Co., 1777, and payment of a supply tax in 1780. 4. Listed as a child of James Denny is Esther, married to a John Small, (apparently also a Rev War Patriot), Ancestor No. A023637, b. ca 1710, d. Aug 1791, Patrick Co., VA. Mr. Small's service consisted of oath of allegiance made in 1778, and paid supply tax, 1780. Same reference pages listed in Virginia State History, etc., as shown in No. 3, paragraph immediately above. I don't fully understand this part, but on the same reference article for John Small whose residence was Henry Co., VA is shown spouse No. 1, Margaret X. Immediately following is list of DAR applications Nos. 734817, 662608, 771561, and 8726024, all mentioning Esther and James Denny. Some of these must include both original and supplmental applications which would be available on request from DAR using one or more of the series of four numbers cited in previous sentence. In addition to information listed in No. 4 (above) under Ancestor No. A123756 (James Denny who d. Wayne Co., KY) are listed member ID's No. 734817, 749217,and 726024 showing child/spouse number/spouse respectively: Frances and Spouse No. 1 Richard Pilson; Henry and Spouse No. 1 Mary 'Polly' Brown; and Frances and Spouse No. 1, Richard Polson. These can be found in DAR Volumes 742, 779, and 868, respectively. The above information is sum total of what I could find in DAR records but should provide some helpful clues for your further research. I might add there is a form available called "Request for Record Copy" which can be downloaded from the DAR website. For a $10 fee [per approved application copy you can request copies of membership forms directly from National DAR. I might add that if your library in Seattle is unable to lend copy of the book on the Dennys, you might check the LDS website, library section, to determine if they have the book you need. If so, you can request a lookup and they will send you copies of the pages containing the information you need. If I can help in any other way, please don't hesitate to contact me.
