    1. [KYWAYNE] George Washington Fleming
    2. Brown, Elizabeth
    3. George Washington Fleming (Flemming) was born in Wayne County in 1836 and died in 1896. He was married to Eliza Jane McBeath, and then Mary Tuttle. He is buried in the Buster (Old Town) cemetery in Monticello. Both the census and his obituary list his occupation as a builder of houses. Does anyone know of a house in Wayne County built by G.W. Fleming?

    1. [KYWAYNE] Transcription volunteers needed
    2. Marilyn Gregory-Fisher
    3. Hello All! In 2005 we began a project to have the Wayne Co, KY 1930 census transcribed by a group of volunteers. Each transcriber was emailed copies of the original film for each section they were typing as well as instructions on how to keep their information uniform. Everyone was excited to have access to this information and quickly began the project. We now have 13 sections completed and online at: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kywayne/1930index.html We are still looking for volunteers to finish up the last 6 sections of the 1930 census. If you are a fairly good typist and comfortable using a word processing program such as Word, please consider helping to finish this project. Please contact me at: wayneco_ky@yahoo.com Thank You, Marilyn Gregory Fisher, CC Wayne Co. 2. Fay Clark
    3. You may have heard that Geocities will be closing down later this year (2009). There are many genealogy sites on Geocities, and sadly, many of these sites may be lost if the webmasters don't move the sites to a new location. Yahoo is not notifying anyone about this by e-mail and many webmasters have not updated their sites in years, so--more likely than not--are not even aware the pages they have posted will be lost. You or someone you know may have genealogy information posted on a Geocities site. USGenWeb & Rootsweb also have had links to Geocities sites. Please help spread the word so genealogy websites won't be lost-- http://ancestorsearch.blogspot.com/2009/04/my-genealogy-site-is-on-geocities-now_29.html http://ancestorsearch.blogspot.com/2009/05/my-genealogy-site-is-on-geocities-now.html http://ancestorsearch.blogspot.com/2009/05/my-genealogy-site-is-on-geocities-now_05.html Fay Clark

    3. I have a Shelton wall that we can trace to Wayne Co., Ky. My gr-gr-grandfather, Marion Shelton, is buried here in the St. Louis area, alongside his wife, Martha. They came here from Wayne County (Monticello) in a covered wagon with a family group, including my gr-grandmother, their daughter, Myrtle Shelton, who was maybe 8 at the time. some in the family group included cousins on Myrtle's side last name of Matthews. I have gravestone photos on Marion & Myrtle Shelton, if anyone is interested in that. Just took them before Easter. My mother and I have done quite a bit research, but we have never been able to find a trail going back on Marion Shelton. He was a farmer and laboror, anything to feed and shelter his family. I believe mom has some info going back on Martha, but I don't have access to her records while I'm typing this. She'd be willing to copy them and share, if any of this sounds like it relates to your family. Myrtle never learned to read or write, never went to school, didn't care about family history, and she passed away in the mid-1970s here in the St. Louis area. She married and left a large extended family who have somewhat scattered out from St. Louis, with whom we will not lose touch!!!! I have the last quilt she made, as well as some of her very simple, but very yummy "res-SEEPS" (recipes) that I had to follow her around the kitchen to learn, since she didn't work from written info, didn't write anything down. The list has been quiet lately so I thought it might be a good time to post one of my "Brick Walls". Michael BROWN and Elizabeth SHELTON of Clinton Co., KY had ten children, one of whom was a son by the name of Elijah BROWN, born about 1843. Clinton Co., KY is next to Wayne Co., KY, where Elijah lived with his wife, Jane BERTRAM BROWN, daughter of Rev. Jonathan BERTRAM and his wife, Pharaba ADKINS. The young couple had seven children, including a daughter named Nancy Elizabeth BROWN, born about December 1872 in Wayne Co., Kentucky. She was called "Lizzie". Lizzie appeared last on the 1880 census in her father's household as Nancy E., age 8, daughter. 1880 Wayne Co., Kentucky Census (108th Enumeration District.): #149-151; BROWN, Elijah, 35, husband, farmer, TN, TN, TN; Jane, 33, wife, KY, KY, KY; Feriby E., 10, daughter; Nancy E., 8, dau; George W., 6, son; General M, 4, son, William F., 2, son. (Next door to Jane's parents.) I want to know whom Lizzie married and what happened to her after the 1880 census. If anyone knows the answer or has a clue, please share it with me. Thank you! 3. Milly, I'm afraid the information on Ancestry.com is wrong and I am the one who submitted it some time back in good faith. We now know that the Nancy Ellen "Lizzie" Brown who was the daughter of Jane Bertram and Elijah Brown did NOT marry James Franklin Lawson and she was not the same as the Lizzie Spradlin who married Thomas G. Neal. I investigated both of these before I had to admit I had been going in wrong directions. Thanks so much though for answering my query. Don't we all wish for the 1890 census! -----Original Message----- From: kywayne-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:kywayne-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Anna L Bertram Sent: Thursday, April 23, 2009 8:56 AM To: kywayne@rootsweb.com Subject: [KYWAYNE] BROWN - Brick Wall Hello Friends! Thank you!
