    3. Hi, I would love to see your index of Wayne County wills. I have had trouble tracing my Grandmother's family who were from Wayne County. 2. Dan McLane
    3. Hello, Lois: This sudden flurry of activity is terrific! My name is Dan McLane. My great grandfather, James Harrison McLane, who lived in Wayne County, changed the spelling of our surname from McClain to McLane, perhaps in the 1850s. Our earliest ancestor in Wayne County, as best we know, was Mordecai McClain. He arrived in Wayne County from Virginia shortly after the War of 1812. (By checking internet phone records, I determined it appears some McClains still live in Wayne County. So, we've had a presence there for almost 200 years.) I'd be delighted if you could check both spellings to determine if there are any McLane/McClain wills in your index. If so, could you please provide a copy of the index? Thank you so much. 3. Lois, All your modest disclaimers aside, it is wonderful that you have bothered to transcribe this index. For those of us who are far from Wayne county, it is a very important tool. At least now we might know if there even is a will! I would be most grateful if you could send me the index. I also promise not to publish it. Thank you so much, Diane Parrish

To: kywayne@rootsweb.com Date: Thursday, August 6, 2009, 8:31 PM Debbie, I am surprised by the immediate response I have received from many who want information from the Will Books. I did this index several years ago, so please understand that I did it for my personal use, and if there are errors that lead you down a wrong path, I apologize, but if you are like me, it likely won’t be the first time that has happened. About the spreadsheet document – I saved this in Excel Windows 1997-2003 format because some cannot open the later versions. The attached document contains three worksheets. The first column in each worksheet gives the page number from the Nutter publication. The first worksheet (Will of) is a list by Name of Will, and is helpful mainly for quick search of a person who died and known dates to see if they have a will. The second worksheet (Others Named) is an alphabetical listing of all persons named other than the Name of the will. Sometimes you can get information about a person if they are mentioned in someone else’s will. The third worksheet (All in Will) is an alphabetical listing by Will, and under each will is a list of names mentioned in the will. The initial for your John is not given, but there evidently is a will, and you can look at the names in the will in the third worksheet. I hope this information is helpful. If you have trouble opening the document let me know and I will try to insert it into a Microsoft Word document for you. 3. Debbie, I am surprised by the immediate response I have received from many who want information from the Will Books. I did this index several years ago, so please understand that I did it for my personal use, and if there are errors that lead you down a wrong path, I apologize, but if you are like me, it likely won’t be the first time that has happened. Also keep in mind that I indexed the names that were in the abstracted publication, so there are two chances for transcription errors.  You will find that this information is only an index, and if you want a copy of the will, I do not have access to that information, as I have not lived in Wayne County for years.  This index will merely give you an idea on whether there is a will, and it can give a location to search if there is a will. Lois Azar As an aside, I am researching John Ramsey-Sarah Simpson, Paris Graham-Adeline Snow Anderson, Tavner Shelton - Amanda Austin, Barnes – Horton-Vickery and other connected families. ________________________________ From: D Parker <gendeb1@hotmail.com> To: kywayne@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, August 6, 2009 8:10:09 AM Subject: Re: [KYWAYNE] Wayne county will index?
