Diane, I don't find any of the names you mentioned in my database. I believe, though, that all of the Denneys in Wayne County are connected in some way. I will keep your email for future reference should I find a connection with my Denneys. Welcome Ina (Sissie Prince) I'm sure we are all glad that you've found us! And you have hit the jackpot, because many of us are your long lost cousins! I am also a Dodson descendent, and have Simpsons in my line as well. And my Wayne County folks also made their way out to Oklahoma one way or another. Obviously you have traced your Dodson line far back. What are you working on now? Many of us have our lines pretty well mapped out and are now untying some age old knots or adding primary sources to back up our dates and events (with, for example wills ( a BIG topic lately) and deeds). There are many folks on this site wite very detailed and personal data on Wayne County people and events who would love to help you out. Again: welcome to our world. Connie Davis (Castillo, Dodson, Christman, et al)
Ina, there is no charge to belong to the Wayne County list. We are just a bunch of people looking for our ancestors just as you are. I have some Dodsons in my line. They married into my Denney family. I'll gather what I have and email it to you. Bill, Here we go again. Now that you have a DNA profile for John Ramsey, Sr. and Richard, how does someone go about identifying the parents of John Sr? Does someone have to track down another DNA test that matches from another Ramsey line? It's reallly fascinating technology, but I'm not quite sure I understand all I know about this new process. I guess I am missing an explanation of how to read the markers or something. My Aunt Gladys Franklin really believed John Sr. came from Thomas (maybe another Jr/Sr), but as far as I know her information was from word of mouth passed down from a previous generation with no documentation. I was hoping that someone with the new Ramsey DNA results would go ahead and identify the parents of John Ramsey Sr. and Richard Ramsey, d. 1822. It took me more than ten years to finally link these two guys. DNA results from descendants from both John and Richard had a perfect 37 marker match. These guys are either brothers or uncle and nephew. Being a 37 marker match and the fact that John names his 4th son Richard, b. 1813, would lead me to believe that they were brothers. Also in the Richard Ramsey household in Burke Co., NC. in the 1790 census, there is an "extra" teenage male. This extra male I believe is our John Ramsey Sr., b. 1777. Hello Lois, I would also like to request a copy of the will excel spreadsheet. I do extensive research in Wayne Co, KY and this would help greatly. I want to play the devils advocate and ask the question if the will index is able to be copyrighted. I got this information from the US Copyright Office http://www.copyright.gov/help/faq/faq-general.html#protect What does copyright protect? Copyright, a form of intellectual property law, protects original works of authorship including literary, dramatic, musical, and artistic works, such as poetry, novels, movies, songs, computer software, and architecture. Copyright does not protect facts, ideas, systems, or methods of operation, although it may protect the way these things are expressed. ....Copyright exists from the moment the work is created. You will have to register, however, if you wish to bring a lawsuit for infringement of a U.S. work. I was wondering if the wills are recorded and become public if at that point the information in the will is a fact and therefore not protected by copyright laws. The index is questionable. It is up to you to interpret the copyright law. I have seen many wills on the internet with the copyright notification. But I ask myself the question that why do they post a copyrighted document when it is totally out of their control once posted. I have done professional photography and put my copyright stamp on my photos and not registered the photos and wondered if I wasted my time. This is just a thought. Thank you in advance. This could be a good addition to my research tools, as well. I'd love to have it. My mother and I just returned last week from a week in Monticello, and we had a wonderful time! We're still talking about it! So many kind, open and welcoming people. We just didn't know what to expect, being outsiders. We were treated as kin, which is how we hoped to be embraced---after all, it's what brought us down there! I can't wait to go back next year. Hello Carolyn - I am the Janet with the brick wall question. You replied to the list so every Janet who reads the posts will see what you have written! Funny that there are 2 of us on this list - I rarely find many other Janets... In any case, thank you for responding. You found online a common mistake re: Archibald's marriage. This is a post from someone who "lifted" my information and got it wrong. It happens... I also mistyped. Yes, Archibald and Elizabeth's first son was Washington.... my mistake. But there is still no proof I can find of how Betsy/Elizabeth is related to Dennys or Worleys.... Thanks for your help tho.... very much. Janet my3graces@comcast.net
Lois, if it is not too much too ask (I imagine you are feeling as if you have opened Pandora's box about now!, I would love a copy of the will spreadsheet.. Thanks so much - Janet my3graces@comcast.net
