Hi List, I am trying to find info on a Rebecca (Gibbons) CROSS who was married to Edward CROSS married 2nd to a Capt. NALL. Does anyone on the list have old books for Deeds or Wills. I have heard there use to be old books that are not published now. :( One of Rebecca (Gibbons) CROSS daughters is Martha Patsy (Cross) who married William RODGERS May 03, 1805 in Grainger Co, TN. They moved to Tazewell, Claiborne Co,TN. Martha Patsy left William and moved to Cumberland by 1820. Their one son named Hiram married a Nancy (??????) would like to know what Nancy's maiden name is. Hiram (Sr) had two children Martha Ann b.1832 and Hiram Franklin b. 1835. No info to small! Thank You, Theresa Rogers Griffiths
I am trying to determine the father of Peter Phipps of Wayne Co., KY. Asher Leon Young and others, say his father is Joshua Phipps of Green Co, KY, who moves to MO. They list him as marrying Elizabeth Rice of VA and Rosan Green of MO. He appears in the 1850 MO Census. Joshua Phipps appears in the 1800 and 1820 Censuses of Green Co., KY In 1820 Green Co., the entry reads: Joshua Phipps 10000100001 He is not in the 1830 Green Co., Census. A Joshua Phipps appears in the 1810, 1820 and 1830 Censuses of Wayne Co., KY. The 1810 and 1820 entries appear to be for the same man, the 1830 is for a younger man. The 1820 Wayne Co., entry reads: Joshua Phipps 22110110201 In both cases Joshua Phipps is a male 45+ and he has a female in the family also 45+. Which Joshua is the father of Peter Phipps? What other evidence is there for Joshua Phipps of Wayne Co. and for Joshua Phipps of Green Co. and their ancestry? Thanks, Steven C. Perkins Steven C. Henry Brown, born ca 1784 Virginia (?) and died on 11 December 1815, age about 31 years old in War of 1812. A letter from the "Department of War dated 1 March 1817 - In Lieu of Bounty Land: I certify that it appears from documents on file in this office that Henry Brown, a private of Capt. Adair's Company, late 17th Regiment of Infantry, enlisted 25 April 1814 for War of 1812 and died in service of the United States on 11 January (sic, December) 1815 by Peter Rogers. On back of the paper is following: "John Wade, Guardian of 5 children: BETSY, JOHN, POLLY, HARMON and HENRY BROWN." The December 1815 Court Orders of Wayne County (p.286): "Administration of Henry Brown, dec'd is granted to John Hall who made oath and entered into bond with James _____ (Hurt?) his security in penalty of $500. John Wade was appointed guardian of Henry Brown's orphans at September Court, 1816 (Wayne Co, Ky Court Orders). Two years later, September Court, 1818, John Wade was discharged and James Jones was appointed guardian. There is a marriage bond in Jefferson Co, TN of a Henry Brown to Sarah Sutherland dated 3 Dec 1804. No minister return and it is not known if this is the same Henry Brown, however it was the only early Henry Brown marriage in Tennessee Marriage Records. JAMES JONES Sr of Otter Creek was involved with the Hensons and Browns of Wayne County. The following record was the key in finding Mary Martha Brown Henson's parents: "Marriage of JOHN BROWN to Martha Bell. Only the following note was found on a little scrap of paper to wit: 6 February 1826 - this is to cirtify that you are hereby authorized to ishue lisons of marag to John Brown and Martha Bell that is given under my hand by James Jones Guardian of the said John Brown - Auter (Otter) Creek - Wit: John Henson and Sally Jones.'" Sally Jones was 3rd wife of James Jones. John Henson signed as witness, being a brother-in-law of John Brown. To date, it is not known just who this Sally Brown was that married James Jones Sr on 22 Mar 1820 by J. Jones JP (ages 61 & 36). James was born 1759 VA and d. 10 Oct 1843 in Wayne Co. The 1850 Census of Wayne Co shows Sarah Brown Jones was b. c1784 VA. It is very possible that this Sarah/Sally Brown was Mrs. Sarah Brown, widow of Henry Brown who died in War of 1812. His widow Sarah and James Jones' wife Sally were about the same age. James Jones would then be step-father to the orphans of Henry Brown. 1810 Wayne Co, Ky census p.374-Line 28 Henry Brown 16/26 (1784-1794) female 16/26 female 00/10 (1800-1810) male 00/10 female 00/10 Wayne Co, Ky Tax List 1810 - Henry Brown, 21+; 1 horse - First record 1811 - Henry Brown, 21+; 0 horse 1812 - Henry Brown, 21+; 0 horse 1813 - Henry Brown, 21+; 0 horse - Last record - Capt Cooper's 90th Reg of Ky Militia - Monticello, Aug 24th 1813: Henry Brown, Wm. John Wade and James Jones were her guardians. 2) JOHN BROWN, was born c1807 in Jefferson Co, TN; m. Martha Bell in Wayne Co, Ky. Only a consent note was found: "6 February 1826 - this is to cirtify that you are hereby authorized to ishue lisons of marag to John Brown and Martha Bell that is given under my hand by James Jones Guardian of the said John Brown - Auter (Otter) Creek - Wit: John Henson and Sally Jones" Sally Jones was 3rd wife of James Jones Sr. and may have been mother of John Brown and John Henson's mother-in-law. John Brown was brother in law of John Henson. John Brown was in Martin Co, IN by 1830 (p.654) living next to John Henson & his wife Mary Martha Brown and Jeremiah Henson. 3) ELIZABETH "Betsy" BROWN, b. ca 1809. 4) HARMON BROWN, b. ca 1810 in Wayne Co, Ky; died after 1870 in Greene Co, IN; m. 6 Nov 1828 in Martin Co, IN to Jane Hudson, b. ca 1808 KY (Pulaski Co?), the daughter of Mrs. Rebecca ___ Hudson of North Carolina. Hello List, Does anyone out there recall a group of people coming to Monticello, KY abt 1980 searching for the heirs of a Gregory man who had died in Texas or OK? All I can remember about it is that this Gregory man had passed away without immediate survivors and that he was very wealthy. These people were searching for heirs hoping to receive a finders fee for their efforts. I'm curious as to what became of this and wondering what they did with all of that info that they collected. I can remember people lining up at the Armory in Monticello hoping to find that they were related to this man. : ) Marilyn Gregory Fisher Gregorys of Wayne Co, KY http://www.geocities.com/hoosierma/ _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com

BERTRAM, BUTTRAM REUNION; WAYNE CO., KY The BUTTRAM or BUTRAM family migrated to Wayne Co., KY in the early 1800s. Some stayed, and others migrated on to Tennessee and beyond. Those that stayed in Wayne Co., KY changed the spelling to BERTRAM in the mid-1800s. We are still one family! There is always a potluck dinner about noon on the 2nd Sun. in July at the fairgrounds in Monticello, Wayne Co., KY for the BERTRAMS that stayed, and those who "got away". That will be July 14th this year. My husband and I are also planning to include some BERTRAM, BUTTRAM, BUTRAM, BUTTRUM, BUTRUM, etc., researchers starting this year, regardless of the branch from which you came. We'll be at the Public Library in Monticello to meet you and share research and stories from about noon to 5 p.m. on Friday, July 12th. Then on Saturday, July 13th we plan a pilgrimage to the historic Pleasant Hill Church and cemetery at Sunnybrook in Wayne Co., KY. This was founded in 1841 by BERTRAMS and allied families. Many early (and recent) BERTRAMS a! re buried there. There has always been musical talent in the family so bring your musical instruments and plan to join in the fun. Please let us know if you are planning to attend one or more days.
