    3. Nancy, By car, Zula is just a matter of 10-20 minutes from the Russell County line. Keep in mind that much of Otter Creek is now under Lake Cumberland, but once was crossable. It is now necessary to go around the Lake to get to Russell County, but portions of it (very SMALL portions of it) are still on the Clinton/Wayne County side of Lake Cumberland. 2. Nancy A. Smithson
    3. Hello List, Can someone look in a cemetery book for Wayne Co., Ky. and find a Caroline Bolin or a Phoebe Carlin Bolin buried in a cemetery there? She died between 1920-1930. In 1920 she was living in the Parnell district. Are there cemeteries in that district where she could be buried? Thank you ALL for helping me! Love, Nancy

    3. Nancy, It is definitely the same Joel Neal who was the brother of Phoebe Carlin. His wife Winnie was a Bell (another of my husband's lines). Her g grandfather Francis Bell Sr. came to Wayne Co with his brother William ca. 1807 from Randolph Co, NC. I'd say you are looking at Marion's uncle Fay Clark ---------- Original Message ---------------------------------- From: "Nancy A. 3. Hello Fay and everyone, I went to your site and read about the Neal's and Bowlin's! I really want my Caroline to be your Phoebe Carlin Neal! I need proof to be sure! Looking for a marriage bond would require looking in a certain county and I'm not sure what county. What do you suggest? I still haven't found my Francis Bolin, Bowlin yet. I went to Russell Co., Ky. message board throught Rootsweb and found where someone posted my great grandma's (Carrie Bowlin Smith) death certificate on there! I had one already and didn't know about the other. On the one I didn't have, it said that Francis Bowlin was born in Russell Co., Ky. and Carolyn Neal was born in Clinton Co., Ky. Can anyone find Francis Bowlin in Russell Co.? School Census as a parent or something? In 1910 Russell Co. Ky. it has: Bolin, Caroline, head, age 54, Ky. Marion, son, 28 Sam, son, 21 May, daughter, 13 In 1920 Wayne Co. Ky. it has: Bolin, Caroline, head, age 65 Marion, son, 39 living next door- Bolin, James, head, age 33 Myrtle, wife, 19 Ida, daughter Ellen, daughter 2/12 In 1930 Wayne Co. Ky. Bolin, Marion, head living next door-- Neal, Joel T., head with his family Thank you! Nancy

    3. Cousin Nancy, I have been relatively certain that your Caroline plugs into my Wayne & Clinton Co Neal lines somewhere, but didn't have a clue how until our great list friends contributed some wonderful clues. Consider that "Carlin" may be how the name "Caroline" sounded to the census taker. You are correct that middle names were (and still are) often used. With that said, I think I may be able to help. I have some information on William Neal father of Phoebe Carlin Neal in my db--His uncle Moses Neal was my husband's gggg grandfather. Please check out the Neals and Bolin/Bowlin/Bowlings in my Rootsweb db at: http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=gmcflc When you have done that, we will need to talk. 1. [KYWAYNE] Bolin and Neal Families
    2. Nancy A. Smithson
    3. Hello Everyone, I need help with a family that I've been researching for about a year now and I can't find anything more. I hope there is someone out there that can look in some records somewhere and find something that can help me. Please!!!! This is the family -- Bolin, Francis, head Caroline, wife, born 1856 Ky. Marion, son, born 1882 Ky. Rose Carrie, daughter, born 1885, Russell Co. Ky. Sam, son, born 1889 Ky. May, daughter, born 1897 Russell Co. Ky. There could be more children. I heard from a family member that Caroline was a Neal born in Clinton, Russell or Wayne County. She was said to have two brothers, Joe and Willie Neal. Can anyone find her parents? I was told by a family member that Francis Bolin married twice. They only remembered a possible daughter, from the first marriage by the name, Laura Bolin. He was said to have had 18 children??? Can you find ANYTHING on him? Rose Carrie and May Bolin were born and married in Russell Co. Ky. They married brothers, Thomas and Floyd Smith. Tom and Carrie are buried in the Grider Cemetery in Russell Co. Ky. On Rose Carrie's marriage bond it says "Lula, Russell Co. Ky." Does anyone know where Lula was back in the 1900-1910? Can you help me find something on Francis Bolin and the parents of Caroline Neal? Thank you for your time and understanding! 1. [KYWAYNE] Ancestry of Peter Phipps of Wayne Co., KY
    2. Steven C. Perkins
    3. After looking at a number of family genealogy books, census records, land records, and church records, I have revised my view on the ancestry of Peter Phipps of Wayne Co., KY as follows: 1. Peter Phipps, b 1790 mar. Nancy Davenport, dau of either, John Davenport and Nancy Burnett, or dau of Osborne Davenport and Mary (nee) Davenport. 2. Joshua Phipps, b 1765-70, d. Missouri or TN, mar.:1) Elizabeth ?Rice?; mar 2) Rosan ????, widow of ???? Green. 3. Elizabeth ?Rice? 4. Joshua Phipps, b. 1745*, d. Green Co., KY 5. Hester Acton/Aston, d. Green Co., KY 6. ?Abraham Rice? 7. ?Mrs. ????? Hastings? 8. Joseph Phipps, mar.: 1) Elizabeth ????; mar.2) Mary Helsby, 1742, Chester Co., PA 9. Mary Helsby 10. probably, George Aston 11. Esther Thomas 12-15 unknown 16. Joseph Phipps 17. Mary Woodier 18. Joseph Helsby 19. Jane ????? 20. George Aston 21. Elizabeth Hunter 22. Owen Thomas 23. Ann ????? 24.-31 unknown 32 Joseph Phipps 33 Mary Benfield 34 George Woodier 35 Elizabeth ????? 36-39 unknown 40 possibly, George Aston (in PA by 1683?) 41 unknown 42 Peter Hunter 43-63 unknown 64. John Phipps 65. Mary ???? 66-123 unknown Sources: Year of birth of Joshua II; Pension application dated 1820, "aged 75". Marriage of Joseph Phipps and Mary Helsby: Records of Goshen Monthly Meeting, 1742. Parents of Mary Helsby: Records of Goshen Monthly Meeting, 1713. George Aston III as father of Hester Aston Phipps is based on chronology and his wife being named Esther. Esther Aston Phipps is named as wife of Joshua Phipps, and daughter of "uncle" George Aston, in the 1813 will of George Aston of Philadelphia. Existence of George Aston I inferred, since there was a George or John Aston in PA in 1683, see, Futher, Hist and Gen of Chester Co., PA. This needs verification. Wife of George Aston III, Esther Thomas, is identified in a mortgage of 27 Mar 1741 in Chester Co., PA. Her parents, Owen THomas and Ann, are named within. Deed Book F6:210. Wife of George Aston II, Elizabeth Hunter, is identified in an acknowledgement dated 12 July 1734 in Chester Co., PA. Her father, Peter Hunter, is named within. Deed Book E5:257. Peter Hunter may be the Peter Hunter who was received at Chester Monthly Meting 6m 26d 1717, from Ballycane Meeting, Co., Wicklow, Ireland, by certificate dated 11m 13d 1716. Any additions or corrections would be appreciated. Regards, Steven C. Perkins
