    3. Anna, You are correct. Belfield Wood, son of Henry Wood, was the brother of Avarilla Wood Davis. Avarilla Davis, daughter of Robert D. Davis and Avarilla Wood, was the niece of Belfield. She did indeed marry John Crabtree, however her daughter Mahala was not John's daughter, but the daughter of William Guffey (brother of Mourning Guffey). Now, my understanding also is that Belfield had a son Belfield Jr. who married the Brummet that Brenda was asking about. I am presently working on the Davis clan. As you know, there is a connection among the families in Morgan TN, Wayne/Clinton & Madison KY, as well as Putnam MO. You probably have everything I do and more, but on the possibility I have stumbled over something you have not seen I'll be glad to share what I have. If you haven't seen my WorldConnect database lately, you might want to take another peek. I'm constantly updating these days as new information pours in. Fay P.S. I have just received a fresh batch of Davis surveys & deeds for Morgan Co from someone trying to connect. If you are interested, just let me know. ---------- Original Message ---------------------------------- From: "Anna L Bertram" <[email protected]> Date: Wed, 27 Aug 2003 10:22:53 -0700 >Brenda and All: >First - My interest in Avarilla WOOD is because she was the sister of the >Belfield WOOD who married Nancy KIDWELL and produced Sarah WOOD, March 20, >1820. 3. Brenda and All: First - My interest in Avarilla WOOD is because she was the sister of the Belfield WOOD who married Nancy KIDWELL and produced Sarah WOOD, March 20, 1820. This Sarah WOOD married a William BROWN from Wayne Co., KY whom I believe was a brother of my husband's great-great-grandfather, Michael BROWN. Secondly - I am also interested in the KIDWELL name even though I have not really begun to research it much yet. Thirdly - Avarilla WOOD and her husband, Robert D. They migrated to Wayne Co., KY and before 1850 to Putnam Co., MO with many other Wayne Co., KY families. By studying these transplanted Wayne Co., KY families I hope to solve several genealogy questions and puzzles I have had. 3. Brenda, I have that Robert D. Davis & Avarilla Wood had a son they named Belfield DAVIS. It seems to me I saw a post on either this list or the Cumberland River list sometime back that said Belfield Wood was Avarilla Wood's brother. If my memory is serving me correctly, a search of the archives might turn up that post and the person who contributed the information. 3. I have a typed copy of a handwritten document that is titled "State Historical Society of Wisconsin, Madison Draper Collection" with the number 68846 or 63346 below it. The information has been copied from a legal document done in January, 1834 in Wayne County, KY and refers to one Peter Cattron taking an oath before a Justice of the Peace (Roger Oatts) affirming that Peter was, in fact, a volunteer as a "private malitia man" in the state of Virginia, Montgomery County, for three months in the 1776. It goes on to give the name of his captain (Walter Crocket) and his Lieutenant (William Campbell) and tells about marching through the country looking for indians. Further on it mentions a Captain Charles Hudson and some of the battles that he participated in as an officer in the British Navy in 1780. Would you have any idea how or where to locate the original of this document? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Regards, Ken Hudson Palos Verdes Peninsula, CA [email protected]

    1. [KYWAYNE] Davis connections in Wayne Co., KY
    2. Allen W. Davis
    3. Hello Fay, I'm not sure that my Davis family connects with yours, but there appear to be some interesting coincidences if not more than that. I'm Allen Davis, of Topeka, KS, descended from Margaret Davis, b. 28 May 1783, KY, d. 14 Dec 1869, Coles County, IL; probable wife of John Davis, born VA or KY, about 1780, d. 1829, Clark County, IL. They appear in the 1820 U.S. Census of Floyd County, KY but moved later that year to Clark Co., IL where John died in 1829 and Margaret lived till near her death in 1869. She had 12 or 13 children, nine of whom I have traced. Their oldest son, Alhanan Davis, b. 27 Dec 1804, KY, d. 30 Nov 1870, Putnam Co., MO; married Eleanor Elledge, 23 Dec 1831, Clark Co., IL; named a son Thomas Elrod Davis, b. 28 Oct 1842, Clark Co., IL, d. 1923, Edgar Col, IL. There appears to be a connection with Elizabeth Davis, b. 1 Jan 1787, VA; d. 12 Jan 1868, Warren Co., KY; who with the consent of her father, John Davis, b. c.1761, VA, married 20 Jun 1807, Wayne Co., KY, Michael Elrod, b. 17 Mar 1786 near Friedland, was Rowan Co., now Forsyth Co., N.C. They reportedly had a son born prior to their marriage--Alhanan Davis Elrod, b. 27 Dec 1805--at least, he is listed in the Elrod Family Records without further information about him. One does wonder whether the two Alhanan's are one in the same. I further wonder whether Elizabeth Davis Elrod could be a sister to my probable ancestor, John Davis, b. c1780, VA or KY; d. 1829, Clark County, IL and children of John Davis of VA who gave his consent to her marriage in 1807 in Wayne Co., KY to marry Michael Elrod. Are they related to either your John Davis or Robert Davis? Could either Elizabeth Davis or her father, John Davis, be one of yours? I haven't been able to find any records in Wayne Co. of a will for John Davis or something that would shed more light on his other children. The names John, Margaret, Alhanan, Shelton as well as some real "doozies" such as: Greenwood, Haywood, and Mayberry which appear down though the generations of my family. In fact I descend directly from Greenwood Davis. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Fay Clark" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, August 24, 2003 9:48 PM Subject: Re: [KYWAYNE] Avarilla Davis, dau of Robert Davis > Donna, > > Robert D. William & Sally's father William BELL Sr., was a brother of Francis BELL Sr., whose youngest daughter Mary "Polly" BELL married Robert DAVIS b. 1815. The first wife of Robert & Polly BELL DAVIS' son Charles L. DAVIS was also named Nancy Jane BELL. She was a d/o Polly BELL's brother John BELL. I don't know anything more about this Thomas DAVIS, who he married and where he went. If he is the Thomas you are looking for, I would be very interested in finding out, as I am also trying to establish the relationship between my husband's ancestor Robert DAVIS b. 1815 and Robert D. DAVIS. I think he could be the son of Robert DAVIS Jr., but have not eliminated Thomas or several of his brothers as possibilities. Additionally, Robert D. DAVIS also had a brother Thomas who was born ca. 1755. Again, I have no further information. Please tell me about your Thomas Davis. I have information about some of the related families that may help. Perhaps together we can figure this thing out. 2. Anna, I don't know who this Senator Bertram is, but there was a Minerva Jane Bertram (b. 12/3/1834 in Wayne County, KY, d. 9/8/1869 buried in Rufe Wright Cemetery in Overton County). Minerva was married to Rufus Washington (Rufe) Wright (b. 11/13/1836, d. 10/24/1911). I wonder if Minerva's children/grandchildren were somehow related to that Senator Bertram. I don't have Minerva's parents names, but Rufus was the son Alfred Leander Wright and Jane Howard. The children I have for them Rufe and Minerva are: - Martilla Jane Wright (b. 11/25/1856) - John Marion Wright (b. 7/19/1858) m. Samantha Evelyn Winningham & Rebecca Flowers (I've also seen his names as Joseph M. Wright) - Mary Ann Wright (b. 1/26/1860) m. John B. (Burr) Ledford - Alfred Leander Wright (b. 9/12/1861) - Robert Anthony Wright (b. 7/234/1863) m. Amanda J. Hendon - Sarah Elizabeth Wright (b. 9/8/1865) m. John W. Ledford - Willis Camel Wright (b. 4/4/1867) - J.T. Wright (b. 7/1/1869) After Minerva Bertram Wright died, Rufe married Sarah E. Copeland (b. abt. 1849). The children I have for them are: - Noah Washington Wright (b. 6/28/1872) m. Mary Jane Young - Martha Wright (b. 7/28/1875) m. Horace Warren - Nancy J. Wright (b. 10/18/1877) - James Riley Wright (7/15/1882) m.
