    3. ----- Original Message ----- From: Anna L Bertram To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, September 15, 2003 9:55 AM Subject: BUTRAM, MARSH, BRADLEY Cemetery Work Day Oct. 11th Invitation Early Fall Greetings to All This is an invitation for you! There will be a work day on Saturday, October 11th starting at 9 A.M. C.S.T. for the historic BRADLEY Cemetery . Located about 10 miles outside of Sparta off Highway 84 toward Monterey, this charming jewel of a cemetery is the final resting place of the early BRADLEY family, and two Revolutionary War soldiers, William BUTRAM, II (1759 NC - 1853) and Henry MARSH (b. about 1761 to 1777 VA - 1859). Both relocated from Wayne Co., KY to White Co., TN in their last years. What to wear? Sturdy work clothes, boots or rugged leather shoes, hat for protection from the sun (no shade), sun block or sun screen lotion, work gloves What to bring? TOOLS: hoes, rakes, spades and shovels, pruners, loppers, clippers, sling hooks, weed eaters, push lawn mowers. (No chain saws needed this time.) OTHER ITEMS: drinking water, sack lunch and snacks, folding chair, camera, insect repellent You might want to bring a wreath or spray of flowers to place on a grave to honor your ancestor once the cemetery is groomed! If you don't have tools, just bring yourselves and we'll share our tools. We'll even teach you how to use them if you don't have experience. What a deal! Please let us know if you are planning to be there so we'll have an idea of the number to expect. The pasture gate will be open so you won't have to climb it! Bring your cousins, aunts, uncles, neighbors! We'll have fun working together! This is your opportunity to do something that makes you feel good about helping the community and preserving a piece of history! Let us know if you need directions to the Bradley Cemetery. It cannot be seen from any road. Hope to see lots of you there! Anna and Fount Bertram [email protected]

    1. [KYWAYNE] Re: Hughes
    2. June Bork
    3. The Hughes name sounded familiar and out of curiosity, I checked the marriage records. Calvin G. Hughes married first, 28 June 1849 in Wayne to MARTHA ANN HORSEY by William Hall, JP. The Bondsman was Edward Malona. Apparently, Martha was the mother of his children shown in 1860. The 1860 Census of Wayne is dated Aug 2, showing Calvin G. with his new wife KISIAH STRINGER. They were married earlier that year on 28 April (1860) at the house of B.S. Hughs by Martin Back, JP. Present at the wedding was Richard and Nancy Stringer (witnesses) with Bondsman, Bolen Roberts. Mrs. NANCY HUGHES lived with Calvin in 1860, age 63 (b.1797) NC. A John Hughes married in Wayne on 20 Dec 1816 to NANCY ALEXANDER by Roger Oatts, JP. John and Nancy are not listed on the 1820 Wayne, but may be living in house of the only Hughes family: MRS. ANNE HUGHES who was head of house, age over 45 (b.bef 1775), with a male the same age and another male the right age to be John, 26/45 (b.1775-1794) and a female, age 16/26 (b.1794/1804), which could be Nancy, nee Alexander, plus others in the house. In 1830 Census, p.229, there is Nathan (Nathaniel) Horsey, age 50/60 (line 13). Calvin named a son Nathaniel, no doubt after his father in law (?). Five houses down, Line 18 is Nancy Hughes as head of house, apparently a widow by this time, with a son age 0/5, b. 1825/30 which could be Calvin, b. ca 1829/30. It appears that Martha Ann Horsey and Calvin were raised in the same neighborhood. I hope this has helped. Regards, June P.S. Yes, there were other Hughes/Hughs/Houghs in Wayne. >From: "carolyn beard" <[email protected]> >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [KYWAYNE] Hughes >Date: Sat, 06 Sep 2003 22:50:57 +0000 > >Deanna, Hi.
