(http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kvrp) What began as a "dream" of 3 of us involved with the KYGenWeb Project and the KYGenWeb Archives, a centralized collection of Kentucky birth, marriage and death records, is now available in the first stages for Kentucky researchers. Currently, the browsable index lists all of the deaths in the KY Death Index (1911-1999). We are in the process of adding digital images and transcriptions of actual death certificates. These digital images and transcriptions will be linked to the browsable index as they are added to the collection. Records for this project will be a combination of researcher-contributed records and a coordinated extraction program so we can get them up as quickly as possible. We will begin adding birth records about 15 April 2004 and marriage records about 1 June 2004. As these records are added, they will also be linked to the index. (NOTE: Birth records will only be added for persons born before the year 1854, unless proof of death is provided. We want to ensure that the privacy and safety of living individuals is not compromised.) The browsable index will be a great help to KY researchers by itself, as you'll be able to search for those "creative" spellings that all of us have been blessed (or cursed) with. Tens of thousands of corrections have already been made to the original index. Corrections from site visitors are encouraged. As corrected or additional information is received on any of the records, it will be incorporated into the index for the benefit of future site visitors. In addition to the browsable index, be sure to check out the site search engine, as it will pick up additional information in the transcriptions (most importantly, parents' and spouse's names, if given). We invite everyone to stop in and check out this newest addition. Our hope is that you'll find some "treasures" here and that you'll then share your collections so that others can find theirs too. Feel free to forward this message to other mail lists. ==== CUMBERLAND-RIVER Mailing List ==== America, my friends, is the only country in the world actually founded on liberty-- the only one. Hello all, I'm a new subscriber and I would like to introduce myself. I'm very amateur at researching genealogy and most of what I have has come from internet communication and web sites. I haven't learned how to research in other areas. I am asking cousins to fill me in, as well. Mom and Dad have passed away and I miss their input. My father was Horace Kidd, b. 5 Feb. 1915 d. 4 Feb 1990; his father was George Wshington Kidd b. 22 Nov. 1879 d. 5 feb 1965 m. Martha Frances Slaven b. 17 Jan 1884 d. 17 Jun 1947. Mother was Marie Koger Kidd b. 1 Sep 1921 d. 17 Aug 2003; her father was Ephram Koger 24 May 1892 d. 25 Apr 1968 m. Lillian Hill b. 10 Nov 1896, d. 17 Sep 1983 Anyone with something to share, I would welcome that information. Thanks, Dee

Hello. I am trying to learn more about my Kentucky side of the family... Here is what I have on our line is so far on my mother's mother's KINSLOW line... they lived in Whitley, Knox, and Wayne Counties... My WALKER ancestors and their related families... We now know that our "Jesse WALKER", husband of Rachel Cherry is aka William 'Jesse' WALKER. William Jesse WALKER is 1/2 Cherokee. His mother was Katherine 'Kate' LONG who was full Cherokee and his father was William WALKER. William Jesse WALKER also had a brother names James WALKER. William Jesse WALKER knew and fought along with L. Col. William Brannon BALL and Capt. William CRISPIN in the Civil War. William Jesse WALKER was in the Civil War and fought in the Infantry(KY/AL). At one time he fought with the Alabama Infantry. It has been said that he was about 5'3" in stature, was thin, had a ruddy complexion and coal black hair, he had a long sharp nose and narrow chin. William Jesse WALKER's brother James WALKER had a daughter who married Josiah 'Josh' BRINKLEY. They had 5 sons... two of which were Tom and George. There was a cousin somewhere named Jeff BRINKLEY. Katherine 'Kate' LONG's parents were full blood Cherokees out! of the North Hills of NC and only had Indian names. Katherine 'Kate' LONG's husband was William WALKER and went by John WALKER. John WALKER's parents were both Indians from the North Hills of NC. Katherine 'Kate' LONG and her husband William 'John' WALKER came out of the North Hills of NC to the lands there in south central KY. We find their descendents in Whitley and Knox counties. In doing some family research recently and talking to an old family elder, I learned that ole Nathaniel HOLT also went by James Nathaniel HOLT/James HOLT. We just knew him as Nathaniel... while the records and others knew him as James HOLT. ============================ Here is our mother's mother's updated direct line: Moytoy 1 (B: ~1687, Chota, City of Refuge, Cherokee Nation, NC; D: ~1770; Parents: Father: Amatoya Moytoy (B: ~1640, Chota) and Mother: Quatsy (B:~1650, Tellico, TN) and Woman of the Wild Potato Clan (B: ~1686) Woman of (Chickamauaga Cherokee) Wolf Clan (B:~1704) and Oconostota (Oconostota: Clan: Ani'-Ga'tâge'wi = Kituah or Wild Potato (Wa-Wli Vann), ~1704, Tanasee-March 1783) Jennie of (Chickamauaga Cherokee) Wolf Clan (B:~1726) and Johann Conrad (~1720 - ~1754) Nathan Hicks, and English Trader settled with the Cherokees before the American Revolution (B: 06 Nov 1743, VA) and married ~ 1758 Na'Ye'Hi/'Na'Ne'He'/Nancy Wolf of the Chickamauga Cherokee Wolf Clan, B: ~1743, Cherokee Nation, GA) Elizabeth Hicks and Eliphus/Eliphas Holt/Hold James Nathaniel Holt and Abbigail Clanton (Great aunt of Ike and Billy Clanton, OK Corral Tombstone AZ) Drury Holt and Elizabeth 'Betsy' Rogers Martha Holt and Joseph R. I was wondering if anyone had family info on Susan (Criswell/Chriswell) 1840-1882 wife of Sylvester Hucaby/Huckaby? I think Susan was the daughter of Wm & Jane Criswell/Chriswell. She married Sylvester Hucaby/Huckable 1866 in Wayne Co, KY. The record states that this was Susan's 2nd marriage and it gives her last name as Slagle. Does anyone have an idea who Susan's first husband would have been? ===== Marilyn Gregory Fisher, CC Wayne Co, KYGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~kywayne/wayne.html Wayne Co, KY Cemetery Project http://www.rootsweb.com/~kywaycem/index.html Gregorys of Wayne Co, KY http://www.geocities.com/hoosierma/ __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Hi All, If you haven't checked the web site lately, we now have over 270 Wayne County cemeteries online! I've also added a new feature called ADD-A-GRAVE. This is an online form where you may submit new burials to the web site or add information about someone already listed in the Wayne County, KY Cemetery Book. I ask that you please only list one grave per entry form, but you may submit as many forms as you wish. If you have a huge amount of information to add or pictures, it would be best if you contacted me directly. Thank you to everyone who has already submitted information or pictures. Your help in updating the cemeteries is appreciated by all. One other item I'd like to point out on the Wayne County KYGenWeb site is the link to the local funeral home websites. The funeral home websites now have obituaries online. It's freezing here in Indiana! What a great time to stay indoors and work on our family history! ===== Marilyn Gregory Fisher, CC Wayne Co, KYGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~kywayne/wayne.html Wayne Co, KY Cemetery Project http://www.rootsweb.com/~kywaycem/index.html Gregorys of Wayne Co, KY http://www.geocities.com/hoosierma/ __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? My husband's first cousin, Dee Bertram, died this morning in the emergency room. We are trying to find out the arrangements. He was the son of Oscar Leonard and Nina Belle (GIBSON) BERTRAM, and the husband of Justeen (Neal) BERTRAM. If someone on the list lives in the Wayne County area please let us know if the arrangements have been announced yet. We plan to attend the funeral if possible. Thanks so much! This article appeared in Dallas Morning News, Dallas, Texas, either Sunday or Monday, Dec 2003 Perhaps someone is searching this family. I am not related to this line as far as I know, but feel it may be an important clue for someone searching his line. "Marsh Lane takes name from hunter. This pioneer - a noted hunter - has his name on a middle school and a northwest Dallas lane. He moved from Kentucky to Texas with his family when he was 13 years old. Known as the hunter of the family, lore has it that he killed the last wild buffalo east of the Trinity River. When he came of age, he acquired 320 acres, which he later used for farming and raising cattle. He served in the Confederate Army in Arkansas and what became Oklahoma. He prospered after the war and had about 700 acres in 1892. The Dallas middle school and the thoroughfare are named for Thomas C. Marsh." Submitted by Joyce Holt Taylor
