Hello, Just wanted to announce that Eileen Mullins and I have updated the Wayne County, KY Cemeteries website with over 300 new or corrected names. In addition, I have included an index for these new names. Not all are new burials, but they may have had a headstone placed since the Coffey's Wayne County, Kentucky Cemeteries was published. I've also tried to make the user instructions a little easier to understand and there is a new link for a map of Wayne County. We've also added notes submitted to us about people buried in Wayne Co. Many of these notes were written by the late Imogene Koger Raggio known for her research in the Wayne Co area. If you don't see your submitted info online, please be patient we will be updating the pages again soon. In closing I want to thank the Coffeys again for allowing us to place their book online. And a big thank you to all who have taken the time to contibute new information. It isn't just for me....it's for all who are or will research their ancestors in Wayne Co. Good Night! PS...if anyone can tell me how to make my FrontPage photo gallery slideshow work, please write to me privatly. : ( ===== Marilyn Gregory Fisher, CC Wayne Co, KYGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~kywayne/wayne.html Wayne Co, KY Cemetery Project http://www.rootsweb.com/~kywaycem/index.html Gregorys of Wayne Co, KY http://www.geocities.com/hoosierma/ __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Copied from another List........... Grandma Climbed The Family Tree There's been a change in Grandma, we've noticed as of late. She's always reading history, or jotting down some date, She's tracing back the family, we'll all have pedigrees, Grandma's got a hobby, she's Climbing the Family Trees... Poor Grandpa does the cooking, and now, or so he states, He even has to wash the cups and dinner plates, Well, Grandma can't be bothered, she's busy as a bee, Compiling genealogy for the Family Tree She has no time to baby-sit, the curtains are a fright. No buttons left on Grandpa's shirts, the flower bed's a sight. She's given up her club work, the serials on TV, The only thing she does nowadays is climb the Family Tree. She wanders through the graveyard in search of date and name, The rich, the poor, the in between, all sleeping there the same, She pauses now and then to rest, fanned by a gentle breeze, That blows above the Fathers of all our Family Trees. Now some folks came from Scotland, some from Galway Bay, Some were French as pastry, some German all the way. Some went on West to stake their claims, some stayed there by the sea, Grandma hopes to find them all as she climbs the Family Tree. There were pioneers and patriots mixed with our kith and kin, Who blazed the paths of wilderness and fought through thick and thin. But none more staunch than Grandma, whose eyes light up with glee, Each time she finds a missing branch for the Family Tree. Their skills were wide and varied from carpenter to cook, And one, alas, the records show was hopelessly a crook. Blacksmith, farmer, weaver, judge, some tutored for a fee, One lost in time, now all recorded on the Family Tree. To some it's just a hobby, to Grandma it's much more. She learns the joys and heartaches of those who went before. They loved, they lost, they laughed, they wept - and now for you and me, They live again in spirit around the Family Tree. At last she's nearly finished, and we are each exposed. Life will be the same again, this we all suppose. Grandma will cook and sew, serve crullers with our tea. We'll have her back, just as before that wretched Family Tree. Sad to relate, the Preacher called and visited for a spell. We talked about the Gospel and other things as well. The heathen folk, the poor, and then - Etwas was fate, it had to be - Somehow the conversation turned to Grandma and the Family Tree. We tried to change the subject, we talked of everything. But then in Grandma's voice we heard that old familiar ring. She told him all about the past, and soon - Etwas plain to see, The Preacher, too, was neatly snared by Grandma and the Family Tree Author: Virginia Day McDonald, Macon, GA

Hello: I am a descendant of Peter Phipps and Nancy Davenport of Wayne Co KY and I am interested in how the Phipps families fit together from a genetic standpoint. The Phipps Y DNA study was set up this afternoon. Here is the web page: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Phipps%2DY%2DDNA/ FTDNA has sent emails to the 4 Phipps who have already tested asking them to join the study. I am awaiting their replys. This study will be useful to all Phipps researchers and would be especially helpful to those who are stuck at a "brick wall". Once enough people test, we will be able to point people to the family they are genetically linked to, to focus their research. For more information on genetic genealogy, go to http://www.familytreedna.com/ or to my web page, http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~scperkins/ and scroll down to the Genetic Genealogy section. Thanks, Steven C. Perkins

Hello List, I've recently returned from my trip to Wayne Co, KY. (If you've written to me in the past few weeks and didn't get a response...I wasn't ignoring you and I will get caught up on my email soon!) I had the good fortune to be in Monticello on May 15th to attend the dedication ceremony for the William Crenshaw Kennedy, Jr. Memorial Museum. The museum is located in the historic Breeding Hotel at 209 N. Main St in Monticello, KY. During the program the museum was presented with several framed historical documents and the new board of directors were introduced. Financial contributers where thanked and the new director Harlan Ogle explained the new Platinum, Gold, and Silver methods of support for the museum. After the ceremony we toured the museum's many displays and were also given a sneak preview of things to come. The museum staff were so helpful taking time to show us the reference library and explaining how the books have been indexed by family surnames making research so much easier. The museum also houses a large collection of historical photographs which have been cataloged on their computer and an obituary file which I believe they said went back to 1904 when "The Outlook" newspaper was first published. If you are ever in the Monticello area, a visit to the new museum is well worth your time and support. Don't forget that July is the month to renew your Historical Society membership! ===== Marilyn Gregory Fisher, CC Wayne Co, KYGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~kywayne/wayne.html Wayne Co, KY Cemetery Project http://www.rootsweb.com/~kywaycem/index.html Gregorys of Wayne Co, KY http://www.geocities.com/hoosierma/ __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
