Peter Cowen owned land along Drake's Creek in what eventually was Simpson County. His has records indicating this in Warren and Logan County records as early as 1799. He was in Campbell's Mounted, War of 1812 and was also registered under Peter Course. Family history says the original family name was Khius, Kious or Kias (unsure of spelling but pronunciation same) Original immigrant ancestor from Germany and have proof name did begin with a "K" The CowEn name was sometimes mispelled CowAn in old records as it is now.
