Dear fellow listmembers: I am at a loss as to how to locate the parents of my g-g-grandfather, Reuben P. Hawkins. He was supposedly born in Bowling Green, Kentucky, in May 1843, yet I cannot locate him. He was in Illinois by the time of the Civil War, because I have found records documenting his service there. I have gotten "leads" that his father could have been John or Reuben, but no one by that name is listed in 1840 or 1850 censuses, and no children named Reuben. Does anyone out there have any ideas where I should go from here? I have been researching for years and years, but I am still a novice in my opinion! Any input is appreciated! Thanks, Heather
