    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Detmer, Breckinan ?, Kleine, Dyckhus (Dickhaus), Luken, Enneking Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/1BB.2ACI/371.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Don, thank you for your information. We may look into your information. Our Detmers went initially to Cleveland in 1834, but we don't yet know where from Germany as census merely states either Hanover or Oldenburg. Also, family "legend" has it that this same family member and his parents may have immigrated earlier to Baltimore around 1801. This person supposed learned the merchant tailor trade and opened his own shop at age 19 in about 1817. Between that time and 1834, we have no information. One possible theory is that he and his parents returned to the fatherland to be with family and he to seek a wife during that approx 15 year span. We know we are talking about the same person (Gerhard Henry or Heinrich Detmer, b abt 1799). Osnabruck is not far from Damme, from where we know other family members came and immigrated to Cincinnati (also Merchant Tailors).
