I am researching the Lane family. There is a Lane cemetery listed in the Trimble County cemetery book. It is located just outside of Bedford. However, most of the stones were broken or missing. I was wondering if there is anyone out there who has old photographs of the cemetery when the stones were still standing. Sandy Lane lane@forensicgroup.com
Does anyone know if there are any records for the Hopewell Methodist Church or the Baptist Church at Locust? Thanks, Roslyn
Hi Earl, I have a little bit of information that I received this last month at our family reunion in Triimble Co., Ky. My gggrandmother was Margaret Trout, her father was Daniel Trout and her mother was Eliza Mayfield, who was the daughter of Burdette Mayfield and his wife Mary (Polly) Coleman. Mary (Polly) Coleman, was a daughter of the Rev. Benjamin Coleman one of the first ministers at the old Corn Creek Baptist Church. He was born in Amherst County, VA, son of Daniel Coleman and Patience Elliott. He was ordained to preach in Virginia and came to Kentucky about 1800. The will of the Rev. Benjamin is recorded at LaGrange, Ky, for Trimble Co. was part of Oldham County at that time. His will lists sons: Daniel, Virgil and Wyatt Coleman, and daughters Sarah, Patience, Lucy, Elizabeth and Mary (Polly). When we drove past the Pierce home (near Sulpher Dam) we stopped at a small burying ground near this home, and there were some Colemans buried there. I am related to the Pierce family, Trout and Dougherty. The Colemans were also cousins, but this information was given to me by a Pierce relative. So really do not know much about the Coleman family. Hope this will help some in your search. Sharon
These are descendants of Rev Benjamin Coleman of Henry Co., Ky. 1. Sally Coleman married Peter Gabhardt Mar 1, 1793 2. Patience "Patsy" Coleman married John Sandridge or Landridge Jan 22, 1803. 3. Lucy (Lucinda Jane?) married Zachariah McCammon Dec 22, 1815. 4. Elizabeth Coleman married Stewart Collier Dec 21, 1820. 5. Zerilda Coleman married Thomas Boyd Chandler Nov 19, 1820. 6. Sarah Coleman married Samuel Gilham July 22, 1834. 7. Lydia Anne Coleman married Nicholas Hostetler Mar 20, 1880. 8. Irvin Mayfield married Evelyn Maddox May 30, 1849. 9. Nancy Jane Coleman married Jacob Wirt Dec 8, 1840. 10. Sarah Coleman married an unknown Hutcherson. I need help with these individuals....just can't seem to locate or find them anywhere...would all you Coleman and related name researchers please be kind enough to contact me, sure would appreciate a little help. Thanks, Earl

Hi: I've wondered for many years, how this family of Duncan's are related, or if they are to my DUNCAN family. If someone knows the answer to where this family came from, I would surely like to hear from you. Any help would be appreciated. My families in Trimble Co., KY are the James Duncan and Asenath Browning Duncan and their children and grandchildren. Mine came from Culpeper Co., VA to Henry, then Oldham, then Trimble Co's, by 1802. James was a son of William Duncan, the Elder. These are some of the people I'm talking about. I know that this James Duncan married Amanda Penn, but the rest of the other's, I have no idea. Hi, Cheryl - Thanks for Hannah's father's name. I haven't gone far at all on Hannah's line, obviously. Hannah is my 4th great grandmother. Do you find the family's name usually spelled Burdett or Burdette. I look forward to hearing more from you. I know your name. It must be from another list. The Mayfield list, maybe? Hi Morgan, you might look at Carroll Co.. There was a Ms Mayfield living in Locust, Carroll Co. in the 50's. Roslyn -----
Greetings from Elizabethtown, KY. My name is Matt Luckett, and I am searching for information involving my family line. I was hoping that there might be someone in the Trimble County area who could give some guidance. My grandfather (who has a prison in LaGrange KY named after him - The Luther Luckett Correctional Complex) told me that our family was from Trimble County. His father, Horace Luckett, was the son of Richard Luther Luckett (9-17-1845 to 9-25-1928). Richard was born in Trimble County, KY, according to his death certificate and what Grandad told me. My Grandad's version of the story was this: When Richard was 5 years old, his family left Bedford, KY and headed west. But as they travelled, both parents were killed by some epidemic, and supposedly were buried near Independence, Missouri. The kids were then sent back to KY, which is why 'our' Luckett's are still in KY and not out West. That was all he knew. I've been able to substantiate parts of that story. The Trimble County KY Census from August 2nd, 1850 lists William Luckett (age 24), Martha (24), Richard L. (5), Martha (2), and Susan (2 months). So there's Richard at age five. But Richard doesn't appear in census data again (that I can find) until I found him in the 6-1-1880 Daviess County KY Census and the 7-4-1900 Daviess County KY Census. That is everything I have on Richard Luther Luckett. In the 1850 Census, it says that William (24) and Martha (24) are Richard's parents. Richard's death certificate says that his parents were "William Luckett" and "Martha" - it ! has a spelling for Martha's last name but I can't make it out - it looks like "Goode". Later in that same 1850 census, there is another Luckett family. This time it is William G. Luckett (age 60), Martha S. (age 48), and a 34 year old deaf woman named Betsie Brook. My guess is that this is William G. Luckett, Sr. and Martha Somers Steele Luckett. But here's what doesn't make sense. In the 1860 Trimble County census, there are again two Luckett families: One says William G. Luckett (age 69), Martha L. (age 58), and B.B. (age 43). This is obviously still the William G. Luckett Sr. family noted above. But the second Luckett family says "William Luckett (age 35), Martha Ann (age 29), and Sophia (age 7). Given some correspondence which I have received, I think that this must be William G. Luckett Jr. and Martha Ann Floyd (daughter of George Washington Floyd). But I don't believe that this William and Martha were Richard's parents. Otherwise, why would they have a 7-year old Sophia and no other kids listed. Besides, I have received information that William G. Luckett Jr. and Martha Ann Floyd were married on 1-8-1849, nearly 4 years prior to my great-great-grandfather's birth. By 1860, Richard L. should have been about 15, Martha should have been about 12, and Susan should have been about 10. But where they were at the time! of the 1860 census, I have no idea. All I know is that it sure seems like there were several "William and Martha Luckett's" in Trimble County in the mid-1800's ! After their parents died, maybe they were sent back to KY, but not necessarily to Trimble County. But who they lived with is a mystery right now. And it's also a mystery as to what my family line is beyond that 8-2-1850 Trimble County Census record. If anyone can help, even a little, I would be eternally grateful for your assistance. Thank you for your time. Matt Luckett
