Joy, My name is Janis Holloway. I was born Janis Carole Tilley to Kathy Ward and Donald Tilley. I grew up in Beford and now live in Cincinnati, OH. Last year I did an enormous amount of research on my maternal grandfather, Gerald Thomas Ward. He was born in Milton on August 19, 1917 to Lawrence Allen and Ida Fisher Ward. and married my grandmother, Oma Harrison Miles on March 7, 1942. He served in the Army, 6th Infantry Division, 63rd Infantry, Company H. He was a Private First Class. He earned several awards and medals which I had replaced for my Mother since he had not kept them. They are listed below. He served in his division in New Guinea and Luzon, Philippines from June, 1941 until his discharge in November of 1945. He died of cancer in the Veterans Admin. Hosp. in Louisville on July 11, 1965 and is buried at Bedford IOOF Cemetery. His grave does not have a military marker, and I don't know why it doesn't. He received the following awards: W.W.II Victory Medal American Defense Ribbon American Theater Ribbon Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star Good Conduct Ribbon Combat Infantryman Badge Driver and Mechanic Badge The Combat Infantryman Badge was later converted to a Bronze Star Medal. I have attempted to attach a picture of him. Please let me know if you don't get it. I would really appreciate it if you would write back to me just to let me know you received this information. Thank you so very much, Janis Holloway 1324 Covedale Lane Amelia, OH 45102 (513)943-1630 JCHJGH@aol.com

BlankHi Everyone, I'm getting good responses from some of the listers. I wanted to add something that should have been in the first emailing. On civil war soldiers: Any picture would be great. Whether they are in uniform or later in life and not in uniform. They still served and actual pictures of soldiers in uniform are probably rare. Therefore, if you have a picture of an ancestor who was in the civil war, and not in uniform and was taken later in their life like the turn of the century (1900). We are interested in adding those to the book as well. I have one picture of a painting of a gentlemen who was in the Revolutionary War. These are great too. Thank You, :-) Joy
BlankHello fellow researchers, My name is Joy Mack, and I’m with the Trimble County Historical Society. Some of you know me because we share a common ancestor, while some know me as their friendly lookup volunteer. I am working on a project for the Historical Society. It’s a book to honor Trimble County’s men and women who have and/or are serving this great nation in our Military. This is where I NEED YOUR HELP. It’s three parts. PART 1 Thanks to Maggie Fallone, owner of the Trimble County website http://www.online-isp.com/~maggie/trimble/ . I have scanned pictures of soldiers who are not identified, and they are now on the link above. If everyone would view these pictures in the Photo Album section of the Trimble County Webpage, it would be a great help. If you can tell me who any of these individuals are, please email me at cmuck@iglou.com . Please note all these pictures are from the World War II era. Be sure to include the picture number. PART 2 If you have an ancestor or loved one who has a connection to Trimble County and would like to have their picture included, please contact me. Anyone with Civil War Pictures, PLEASE contact me, as they would be a wonderful addition. I am planning these sections in the book: Revolutionary War (1775-1783) War of 1812 (June 12, 1812-1814) Mexican War (1846-1848) Civil War (1861-1865) Spanish-American War (February 15, 1898-December 10, 1898) World War I (1917-1919) World War II (December 7, 1941-1945) Korean War (1950-1953) Vietnam War (1961-1975) Persian Gulf War (January 1991-June 1991) War on Terrorism (September 11, 2001-present) Iraqi Freedom (March 20, 2003-May 10, 2003) During Peace Time Nursing Corp Coast Guard National Guard Misc. which will cover minor crisis and conflicts like the Panama Crisis. Email me for how to submit a picture and/or name of an individual. The guideline to submitting an individual must have some connection to Trimble County Kentucky. They have to meet one or more of the following: Born, Reared, Lived, Died, and/or Buried in the county. If you have an ancestor who served in any of the older wars please at least email me their name. While I have a list of most from the following wars, someone could have been missed: Revolutionary War War of 1812 Mexican War The Confederate side of the Civil War (really would like to get more info on the Union Side) PART 3 I have a list of names found in Obituaries and from military markers at gravesites. I need help in determining where in the book to put them. If you know which war or section they should be in please email me the information (even if they didn’t see action). If they served during peace-time when no conflict was going on, I need that info as well. Thank You. Tippecanoe, Indiana, 1856. Abram Rice 27, Timothy Driskill, 23, and David Stocking, all from Lafayette were publically executed for murder. Stocking had been found guilty of killing a man named John Rose by setting fire to Rose's warehouse on Jan 8, 1855. Rice and Driskill had been involved in killing a victim named Cephas Fahrenbaugh during an armed robberty on May 3, 1855. Two unnamed accomplices turned state's evidence against Rice and Driskill in return for life sentences. The trials were reprinted by Charles W. McClure, in 1975, from an account of the hangings which are on microfilm at the Tippecanoe Co. Public Library. Rice, a tinner by trade, b. in Corydon, Indiana, and Driskill, a native of Harrisburg, Pa, and Stocking. a tavern and hostelry owner, who came from New York State, were linked by the two accomplices. The three were hanged and Driskill and Rice's bodies were delivered to friends and Stocking was buried at the expense of the county. The above article was reprinted in part in the Lafayette Journal & Courier on Sunday, July 13, 2003. Roslyn
Some of you folks have made a mistake on the Casey Co., Ky. Daniel Coleman & the Henry Co., Ky. Daniel Coleman. You MIGHT want to change your Coleman file and correct your books that have been published. Daniel Coleman of Casey Co., Ky. Father: Samuel Coleman. I haven't proven it yet, but Sam was married 3 times. Mother: Millie Coffey born: 1794 in Va. or possibly in Lincoln Co., Ky., now Casey Co. death: abt. April 1, 1853 in Casey Co., Ky. married: Polly Durham Dec. 24, 1822 in Casey Co. Polly born: 1800 Polly's death: Shortly after the August 1850 census was taken. Daniel & Polly had 8 children Daniel & Polly were first cousins Both are buried on Knob Lick Creek Casey Co., Ky. A barn has been built over their grave along with 14 other people's graves. The Gab Wall, that settled the Daniel Coleman estate is buried there , he still has a stone, which is a miracle. If I'm not mistaken, I don't think I'm wrong, Daniel's cabin is still standing there on the creek. This cabin may have been his fathers before he and most of his family moved to Todd Co., Ky. Daniel Coleman of Henry Co., Ky. Father: Stephen Coleman Mother: Mary Ann Foree born: July 26, 1794 Prince Edward Co., Va. death: June 10, 1853 Married: Mary Jeffries 1818 in Shelby Co., Ky. 6 miles from his farm. Mary Jeffries born Dec. 24, 1796 Shelby Co., Ky. death:June 14, 1850 Henry Co., Ky. Daniel & Mary had no children, but Daniel's second wife gave him a son James Daniel, James was born 1851 in Henry Co., Ky. Both are buried next to their home, 2 miles off any road, at route 421 & Beasley Lane. Their house was lived in till 1940 when it burned. The foundation is still in tact & the well has water in it also. I got pictures of the stones and area, it is beautiful place for a home. Daniel & Mary loved 16 miles from Stephen & Mary Coleman, Daniel's parents. Stephen & Mary's house is still lived in as of this date. My brothers & 2 cousins rebuilt the Stephen Coleman cemetery last summer. Daniel lived 10 miles from his cousin, William Lawson Coleman. The William Lawson Coleman house & cemetery is one of the most beautiful places one could visit. The spindle that William L. was hung on during the Civil War by Union troops, was finally replaced last summer. My brothers, Earl "Dickie" Coleman, Harvey Dennis Coleman, and I have spent two and a half years, 50,000 miles plus, over 2000 dollars, and a lot of time, on the research on the two Daniel Coleman's and that is our findings. You folks can do what ever with your Coleman History File, that is our conclusion. The land of Samuel & Daniel, there's 300 acres still being farmed on today in the Casey Co., by their gggg-grand-daughter. James "Sonny" Coleman 9209 Link Rd. Loveland, Ohio 45140 513-793-1719 jcoleman27@cinci.rr.com
there is a Daniel Coleman in the Henry County cemetary book-1794-1853-there is also a Samuel Woodson Coleman-1833-1860-no Milly but Mary 3 times, Mattie once. Maybe Daniel's parents died and he was adopted? There are a bunch of Coleman's in the Henry Co. book. Henry is next to Trimble and I am not sure that is was not part of the other at one time. Those counties, including Carroll seemed to be very fluid in the early 1800s. Roslyn
The Daniel Coleman that married Polly Durham and lived in Casey Co., Ky., I can not prove who his parent's were (BUT). Several people have published books having to do with the Coleman family. The ones saying that Daniel is son of Samuel & Millie Coleman are WRONG. The ones saying that Stephen & Mary Coleman are WRONG. I've spent the past 2.5 yrs. a lot of gas, motels, hired people to do some foot work, rooted through fields looking for gravestones, clerks offices, libraries, long-distance phone calling, no need to go on about that. I've got proof about a Daniel belonging to the Stephen & Mary Coleman, pictures of his gravestones, foundation of his home, his well, distance between his house and home of Stephen & Mary Coleman, and rebuilt the Stephen Coleman family cemetery last summer. One of our genealogist that published a book on the Coleman family didn't know that Samuel & Millie Coleman moved from Casey Co., Ky. and died in Todd Co., Ky. They are buried on a farm near ! Elkton, Ky., and has the Casey Co. Daniel bring the son of Samuel & Millie Coleman. I wish some of these people having information posted on their web-sits & all these dot-coms, would get it CORRECT and give their source of information so one could verify it for them selves. There's so much junk that's incorrect, on some of these sites, it's a joke. If there be anyone out there that can help me with the parents of the Casey Co., Ky. Daniel Coleman I would be very grateful. Will share everything I have with anyone that can prove the parents' of Daniel Coleman of Casey Co., Ky. James "Sonny" Coleman 9209 Link Rd. If, you have not already heard the news, the Kentucky Historical Society is again looking for a new director. As a member of the historical society, and a patron who spends several hours at the facility each week, I'm concerned with the direction the society seems to be taking. A couple of years ago the historical society moved into a new facility which ranks at the top or very near the top of the finest research facilities in the country. Unfortunately, since the move to the new building it appears as though our membership has dropped! In the time that I have been using the library, never once have I seen any mention of the Kentucky Historical Society, its library, or the many services that are provided in ANY of the genealogical magazines that I have and do continue to subscribe too. I have attended conferences, and seminars outside the state in which we should at the very least be represented by a speaker! It seems for whatever reason we are a very well kept secret! Interest in our society needs to be revived! It seems as though the time has come for a director who wants the society to grow and expand. I for one would like to see not only the first floor of the library stack area filled with books, but also the addition of a second floor! The last director was brought in from out of state, which to me doesn't make a lot of sense. It is time that the director of the historical society is a Kentuckian, with knowledge of the history of the state, a vast knowledge of the genealogical holdings within the state, the ability to understand the needs of genealogical, and historical researchers, and the ability to work with our state legislature for the benefit of the society. I wish to nominate Mr. Ron D. Bryant as the new director of the Kentucky Historical Society. Ron D. Bryant not only has seventeen years of experience with the library, is a ninth generation Kentuckian, but is also extremely knowledgeable of the history and genealogical holdings in Kentucky. He is a noted librarian and lecturer on Kentucky, having written over eighty articles, and is the author of Kentucky History - An Annotated Bibliography published in 2000. If Ron D. Bryant becomes director of the historical society, he has stated that he will continue to help patrons with their research in the library. He believes that the director needs to be aware of the patrons needs, and that we must increase our membership. As I mentioned above, I wish to nominate Ron D. Bryant for this position, but I can't do so with your help. If, you agree with me, please send letters to the following gentlemen advising them to name Ron D. Bryant Director of the Kentucky Historical Society: Selection Committee c/o Mr. Walter Baker 917 S. Green Street Glasgow, KY 42141-2086 Selection Committee c/o Mr. Richard L. Taylor 335 Holt Lane Frankfort, KY 40601 Selection Committee c/o Mr. Thomas D. Clark 175 Kentucky Ave. Lexington, KY 40502 Many thanks for your help. Shelby A. Williams

Thanks Bob. Hi Maggie: I was just going through the Trimble Website again, and was wondering, if there was someplace where the early settlers belonged to the Masons. The Grange site, talks about them meeting at the Mason's hall or building, and I don't know how early the Mason's were really founded, but I do know that somewhere, there are lists of members of Masons in different areas throughout the United States. I wrote years ago, after finding Frederick and Francis Marion Duncan's tombstones, with the Mason Emblem on both tombstones, and got the record of the Masons belonging to that particular area in Green Co., MO. From that I got their dates of death. I haven't forgotten my promise to you about sending Duncan information and records, just have been busy on the Corn Creek Baptist Minutes since last October. I'm about with it now, just a little bit more indexing, and it will be ready to go online. Georgia H. There is a Lane cemetery listed in the Trimble County cemetery book. It is located just outside of Bedford. However, most of the stones were broken or missing. I was wondering if there is anyone out there who has old photographs of the cemetery when the stones were still standing.
