Hello Roslyn and others who might be interested, First let me tell all of you that there are quite a number of Court Order Books in the Court House. Only Court Order Book 1 has been put in print by the Historical Society in two volumns. I am sure that Maggie would not have known the answer since she did not do the newsletter or the abstracts. The ones I have listed in the newsletter's are some abstracted by Sharissa Rogers (note top of that pg 6 of newsletter!). I don't know if there was more or not but would guess that there is more. However the TRIMBLE COUNTY GUARDIAN BOND BOOK, 1866-1924 (which covers so much of the time period that is not covered by the census) has it listed. Below it is in the complete form. Whereas, Thomas Kendall has been appointed by the County Court of Trimble County, and qualified as Guardian to Mary Jane Dickens a minor, NOW, we Thomas Kendall as principal, and James Sams his sureties, do hereby convenant to and with the Commonwealth of Kentucky, that the said Thomas Kendall will faithfully discharge the trust of Guardian to said minor, in all respects as required by law. Signed, this 5th day of March 1866 Thomas Kendall James Sams Attest: W F Peak, clerk of Trimble County Court I hope this help you and others, Thanks, Marguerite Miller, editor of Trimble County Historical Society Newsletter. > Hi Roslyn, > > I am hoping one of the ladies from the Historical Society can answer these > questions for you - I live in Michigan and dont' have access to the things you > are asking - Marguerite or Joy are on the list and hopefully they know what you > need. > > Best wishes, > Maggie > > > Hi Maggie, just got my copy of the newsletter. thanks Ann, is there any prospect of these other books being put into print? Is the Bond book in print? Thanks again. Waiting for the papers from you to transcribe whenever you get around to it. Thanks, Roslyn -----
Hi Roslyn, I am hoping one of the ladies from the Historical Society can answer these questions for you - I live in Michigan and dont' have access to the things you are asking - Marguerite or Joy are on the list and hopefully they know what you need. Best wishes, Maggie Hi Maggie, just got my copy of the newsletter. Thanks much. I found an article that I am curious about. It says Mary J. Dickens in orpahn chose thomas Kendall guardian, Book 3, pa 146 5 Mar 1866. Does it say anymore about this? My Mary J. Yelton(dau of Susan Ann Eldridge and Jefferson Yelton) m. Thomas Dickens. Is there a 3d court order book? I have two of them already and was not aware there was a 3d. thanks much. Roslyn

Hello Violet Wirth and others who are interested, The dues have been $5.00 for a calendar year. We decided to drop the dues. I really don't think that anyone interested is worrying about the $5.00 but money at this time is not really a problem for us but it my be in the future. However we would love to have anyone as members if we can keep this thing going next year. They could decide to add back the membership price but at this time I don't know. The way it has been --all membership receives a copy of our quarterly newsletter. (The dues does not even pay for the cost of the Quarterly's that go out) This quarterly contains many things such as any news we might have and some of the old marriages--some court order transcripts and other old things found in newspapers. We were very luck to have received a copy of a 1909 paper from Lois Reed of Madison. This paper told of all marriages and death in the county in 1908 and some other good things as well. I have been adding a few months at a time in the newsletter from these. You are very correct ---there is no interest in the young people and when I say that, I am talking about most people under 50. Our Society is not connected to Karen Claiborne as she is not a member of the Society but it is a good piece. I hope this answers some people questions. If you have any direct question please email me at margueri@iglou.com Marguerite The same article that came out on this board was also in the Trimble Banner. However the editor of the Roundabout and a reporter from the Madison Courier came and did any interview of Violet and myself for their papers along with pictures showing some of our books. They really did good articles for us. The Roundabout and the Madison Courier both have a much better circulation than the Trimble Banner. We have always listed our meeting in the Banner yet very few ever see them. Some have called now and express the fact that they never new about there being meetings. So people are not really reading the Banner even if they get it. > I am deeply saddened by this news. Hello Ken, I am so glad to hear that you have been helped in many ways. However, money is not the problem. We just need local people to help in the work such as OFFICER'S of the organization. We need people to type and also transcribe records. Most of all we need local people to take on leadership responsibility. Some of us just can't keep doing what we are doing. Sincerely, Marguerite > Hi Maggie, > > Unfortunately I live too far away to volunteer my time but would be > happy to volunteer a donation to perhaps fund some help for the ladies. > > You personally and the Trimble County Historical Society have helped me > so much in learning about my Trimble County roots that I would hate to > see their efforts ended. I dont live close by, but am very curious about the dues you talked about. I understand nothing will happen without leadership, but if that is settled, do we have an idea of what the dues might be to join? My family lived in Trimble county from 1830 when it ws in Henry County, to 1900. Many generations of Hancock's who married Abbotts, Allens, Burnetts, Adams, Fishers, Hoskins, ( I do have otheres), etc. I recently have come into some documents, I would not mind coping to the web page, though I am not sure how, about any of it. I've yet to see anyone connected to my Hancock line. And would love to find at least one person, as a connection. Though it seems my Hancock's dont post here at all. And I think I should forward your message to the HANCOCK website, there our too many of us who migrated there, and yet I see none who have posted anything. So as I post your request to the home page, the request goes on, to those maybe not on your mail list, but definately of the county. Tioraidh an drasda, Tori - shyfyre@msn.com Searching- COUNTS(Crouch, Sartain,Williams,Raper, Martin), HANCOCK(Adams, Abbott, Shepperd, Leach,Imel,Speck, Sprunger), MCNIEL(Gaddy,Brown,Lindsey,Mason,Moon)CAREY(Hancock, Catterton,Gibson,Dodder(Dobson),Leach), and any family connections. >From: MFallone@aol.com >Reply-To: KYTRIMBL-L@rootsweb.com >To: KYTRIMBL-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [KYTRIMBLE] Trimble County Historical Society - needs help! >Date: Thu, 13 Nov 2003 08:19:51 EST > > > >Good Morning, > >I received a distressing note the other day from one of the key members of >the Trimble County Historical Society. I am deeply saddened by this news. Was it a coincidence that Sandi Gorin's Tip #466 dated 6 Nov. 03, was " A Toast to the Late Great Historical Society"? Many of the historical societies across the United States apparently are dead or on their last leg. It is a thought-provoking article. One thing she mentions is lack of interest of young people along with little or no history being taught in the public schools. Recently there have been columns by Karen Claiborne in the Trimble Banner called "Shaking the Family Tree". They are interesting and I hope will continue. I wonder if the new editor of the Banner could be interested in running an article about the plight of the Historical Society and stir up some interest in keeping it going. I deeply regret not having joined years ago, although I was and still am unable to attend meetings. Would it be too late to send membership dues now? Violet Wirth
Hi Marguerite, if you can mail me copies of stuff, I can type it up. I did that for a church in Delaware and it worked out okay. They sent me copies and I put them on a file my daughter set up on the computer and after I completed them, I e-mailed them to them. They were pretty old records, mid 1800's, and kind of hard to read, but I managed okay. Roslyn -----
Hi Maggie, I am so sorry to hear about this. I have found so much info on my family through these ladies and Trimble County. I wish I were closer to help. They have been an invaluable part of my family search and I know they do it through their love of the history of the county. I have been down there with friends and met Maugerite and searched for family. Hope they find some volunteers-have they gone to the schools and done something? Maybe they can get a program going there? I would love to be able to get down there and "dig" with them. Roslyn -----
Hi Maggie, Unfortunately I live too far away to volunteer my time but would be happy to volunteer a donation to perhaps fund some help for the ladies. Good Morning, I received a distressing note the other day from one of the key members of the Trimble County Historical Society. You can find that letter below - please do read. One of the most important reasons the Trimble County GenWeb page ( <A HREF="http://www.online-isp.com/~maggie/trimble/">Trimble County Kentucky</A> ) has been such an excellent resource for so many genealogists is because the Trimble County Historical Society is 'one of kind'. They have transcribed so much data and so many records - all with volunteer efforts - and made so much of this available for FREE to so many - that they have set themselves apart in generosity and true, sincere wishes that all who want to search their family history can and will have access to records in Trimble County. They have also published many, many resource books that researchers can purchase. If your ancestor was from Trimble County, you are indeed most fortunate, thanks to this wonderful organization of fine volunteers. Please read the letter below as to their current plight. If you live in or near the Trimble County area perhaps you can help them. If you don't live nearby, consider a membership because your membership dues help support them as well. I have had the joy of meeting many of these fine people on a visit to the county two summers ago. It was utterly amazing to hear her talk about the families buried at the cemetery - she knew them all - who belonged to whom - their ancestors, where they lived, what they did. She was - and is - a wealth of knowledge - as are all the devoted hardworking other volunteers. Did you know they keep Family Files at the library? You can write to one of the members and they will check the family file at the library to see if anything has been collected on your family. I found volumes on some of my lines. They charge so little for look ups and copies - it's still the bargain we all long for! Read on - and if you can help, please, please do! TRIMBLE COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY GOES TO A NON-FUNCTION STATUS. When January 1 rolls around the Trimble County Historical Society will go into a non-functioning status due to lack of interest in the history of the county. President Violet Jennings is stepping down along with Secretary Marguerite Miller. There is at this time no one to fill these positions. Good Morning! I am very excited to tell you that, thanks to Joy Muck and Violet Jennings of the Trimble County Historical Society - tax lists for 1890 are now available for you to view at the <A HREF="http://www.online-isp.com/~maggie/trimble/">Trimble County Kentucky</A> GenWeb page. The value of this is immense. The 1890 census was destroyed in a fire - which left a 20 year gap in census information. This 1890 tax list helps fill this gap by giving full names and other details of residents of Trimble County during that time period. To view these records, click on the Trimble link I provided above - and in the main box of links - and right in line with the census records chronologically, you will see the link to the tax lists. Please be sure to thank Joy (she monitors this list) for the massive amount of time and effort that went into this project. Happy Searching, Maggie Fallone Trimble Co. Genealogy
