Hi list, For those of you who are researching the Ewing family who lived in Trimble County, I have a question for you. Even though the particular event did not happen in Trimble County, does anyone know if this statement is true? I have not been able to verify this information. Robina was the wife of James EWING. They came to KY from Scotland. It was at Frankfort that Robina taught the first high school for girls that was taught in the state of Kentucky. This was, perhaps, in 1802 or 1803. Bill, That marriage is recorded in Trimble Co. 18 Feb 1843 between Charles H. Cox and Minerva Ann Adkins. Bond by Alexander Gibson in a book, Trimble County, Kentucky (Marriage Bonds, letters of consent, Minister returns 1827-1851) by Donna Stark Thompson. I did not see family in Trimble Co. 1850 or 1860 census. I'm corresponding with someone interested in a Charles Cox who married a Minerva Adkins (or Evans) of February 18, 1843 in Trimble County. She says she wrote the courthouse and received a reply that Trimble was part of Gallatin at the time, which is clearly wrong. Charles and Minerva Cox had at least two children before Minerva married a Joseph Amphlett in 1851, so she would like to know who this Charles Cox was, and if he died or if they were divorced. My information was that he was the same as the Charles H. Cox who married Jane Furnish in Carroll County, but it looks like they are not the same Charles Cox. Can anyone shed any light on this? Does anyone on the list have further information from the Trimble County Marriages? Thanks, Bill Davis -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Diana, As someone who has been searching for the birthplace of a g-grandfather (surname Hedrick) supposedly from the Trimble Co. Ky area for many years, I decided to see what I could find for you. I have no association with the Hopper surname. I wish that I could give you some concrete information but unfortunately, what I have is more along the way of what I didn't find. I searched (through Ancestry.com) 1870 & 1860 Trimble Co., KY Census records. I did not find Hopper, Hooper or anything in the "H's" that looked like Hopper or any variation thereof. I searched 1870 Trimble by age using 1861 (plus or minus 2) and saw nothing that looked like a possiblity. I looked at 1900 Kansas but did not find a Madison County as a county at that time. I went to USGenWeb, selected Kansas and then looked for Madison Co. The closest I could find was a reference under the link for Lyon Co. which stated that it (Lyon) was formed in in 1857, parent county Madison (see Breckenridge). There was no link for Breckenridge. I am sorry that I could not find specific information for your inquiry, but sometimes it is just as useful to know the places you can eliminate. Good luck, Jane
Hello group! I have been looking for this woman,,,ggrandmother since 1995. I didn't realize that everywhere I posted was now too old to be kept in the databases. Anyway I am reposting my search for this woman. She was born according to family history in Milton, Trimble county on 05/30/1861. She moved to Greenwood, Madison, Kansas in 1885 and married Charles Bouton. She died in 03/22/1914 in Bradford County, Florida and is buried in the Hampton cemetery. The county has no death record for her. One of her other relatives many years ago took a picture of her headstone in Florida. Anyone have any suggestions where I might look for her parents, siblings, etc? Diana -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. I only know what's in the book about the Chalafont Cemetery. It's stated in there that the Chalafant Cemetery is "in a field on Joe Ogden Farm across State Road 421 from the Farm Bureau Location." It has four burials listed: Chalafant, Nathan 1795 - 1888 Chalafant, John G. 1805-1885 Chalafant, Abner 1800-1837 Chalafant, Nancy King 1805-1887 > In a message dated 8/14/05 6:28:46 PM US Eastern Standard Time, > suerobertaccio@insightbb.com writes: > > > > The Trimble County Cemetery Book has the locations of the marked graves. > > Most of those without tombstones are listed, but the location is not listed. > > > > > > Sue, > > Do you know anything about the Chalfant Cemetery? I believe he's buried in Carrollton. I know there are many more Chalfants buried there and maybe some Kings. I have seen that one headstone with the above 4 names on it. I talked to the current owners of the land and they advised that there used to be other headstones (back in the 1930's), but as the cemetery is not fenced, they were long ago knocked over by cattle grazing in the area. Someday I need to get up there and see if I can poke around and uncover some of those old stones. I'm trying to convince other family members that if we do that, we really need to see about putting some kind of fence around it to protect them. Thanks for you help. Dick

How about that view from Moffett - Isn't it beautiful?! The Trimble County Cemetery Book has the locations of the marked graves. Most of those without tombstones are listed, but the location is not listed. I know all of the graves without tombstones are not listed because some in my family are buried there according to obituaries and/or death certificates, but they are not in the book. According to the book, here's the location of the Wilson Cemetery: "Located in Carmel neighborhood off road 1492 on Old Mitchell Road. On a hill overlooking Canip Creek, 100 by 50 feet, some field stones." http://chfs.ky.gov/dph/vital/deathcert/ You can also download the form and mail directly to the state ($6.00 a copy). I do this all the time. It is cheaper than Vital Check. Usually takes a few weeks. The death certificate lists the cause of death, but not necessarily the burial place. Holly Liter Sourcing Analyst Summit Energy Services, Inc.
