    2. MICHAEL MARTINEZ
    3. Rev. Edward Everett Joiner was born 3 Dec 1866 in Trigg Co., KY. He died 26 Aug 1917 in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. He was the son of James "Jim" Burrell Joiner and Amanda D.V. Campbell. On 21 May 1891 he married Lula May Roland, the daughter of James Allen Roland and Ida Jackson Thomas. Lula was born 12 Aug 1874 and died 15 Nov 1938. She is buried in Mission Burial Park at San Antonio, TX. [Note: the Ransey Joiner, Jr. book has a nice re-print of a tribute letter for Rev. Joiner who was a Methodist Missionary to Brazil. The letter was printed with the permission of his daughter, Eunice Gates. Its worth a read as it is very biographical if quite "flowery" in speech, having been written as a memorial in 1917.] Their children were: 1. Virginia May Bennack (b. 1940) b. Frank Phillip Bennack III (b. 1944) ***"Dr. Virginia Joiner, retired Professor of French and Spanish at Trinity University in San Antonio, died on April 18, 1971. She was born and reared in Brazil, the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. E.E. Joiner, Methodist missionaries from Kentucky, but her entire academic life was spent in the United States. She earned her Bachelor's and Master's degreees at Southwestern University (1920 and 1923 respectively) and her Doctor's degree at the University of Texas (1940), where, as a graduate teaching assistant, she was privileged to introduce classes in the Portugese language. She was a student instructor at Southwestern, and she taught in summer session at Texas Tech and the Rocky Mountain School of Languages, but her professional career centered chiefly on Trinity University and its predecessors in San Antonio -- Westmoorland College and the University of San Antonio. She retired from Trinity University in 1962." Excerpted from "Hispania," the official journal of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portugese, in Vo. 54, No. 3 (Sep 1971) page 570. She was an "Emeritus Member" of the Association.*** Any additions/corrections are greatly appreciated. Thanks. Kathy in FL [email protected]
