Since the list is quiet, I thought we could reminesse together.... Hope we get a good thread going. Cher Mama and Snuff >From the beginning of my time until after I left home my grandmother Dana Dotson, lived with my Mother and Dad. Mama had her own room, tv to watch 'her ' shows, and a rocker in the corner of her room flanked by two windows.... A beautiful sunny view too... She could see me get on and off the bus from school....and she waited for me while she wouldbe watching "As the World Turns" . She was a snuff dipper.. not just any snuff.. Bruton snuff... She would have her coffee can with a paper bag in it with the edges turned down over the lip of the can... or if she was out of bags she could fold the newspaper into the neatest pouch.. and make it fit really snug in the can... I always loved to watch her do that. Mother hated the 'habit' but, tolerated it as long as company wasnt around.. Mama wouldnt dip if we had company.<VBG> I remember coming home from school and rushing to Mama's room to fill her in on my day ... and hurrying to unwrap my tootsy roll, climb into the rocker beside her bed and chew the cud, until I could 'spit my backy' like Mama.... I had tasted snuff and found it to be too hot for my palate, and Tootsie rolls more flavorful if I accidentially swallowed... What a wonderful memory.... Cher

Drain and add other ingredients. Cook until cucumbers are clear. Seal hot. About "Minnie's Book": My grandmother, Minnie Fitzhugh Dennis 1889-1947 of Stewart County, had a "recipe book" in which are recipes as well as notes on her "egg sales" dating from 1911 up until not long before she died. I was privileged to examine this book and to copy much from it, as my aunt pulled it out along with other family keepsakes to show to me that I might know what she had and what the importance of some of the things she had kept were that I might not otherwise have understood the significance of. Naturally my grandmother's book was an easy one to see the beauty of.... This is the TnGenQuery page... addy. Here you submit detailed queries... on Surnames? Places? about the region you are researching... Go here and fill out at least one Query... You can be specific and tell a bit about who or what you are inquiring of..... you should do it every quarter or so... because that data is archived and listed by date not by the alphabet... Just a tip.. Cher http://www.tngennet.org/queries/qpost.htm
Tim, Regarding the ancestors of James DeWitt Clark..... Do you happen to know where they came from? I'm trying to do an end run around one of my brickwalls. Looks like James DeWitt Clark's family my Joiners and my Chapman's may have been cosy for a bit. 1. My great grandfather's name was DeWitt Edward Chapman and he was born in Bumpusmills. 2. My Joiners are related to the Joiners that James DeWitt Clark married into. 3. My great great grandfather was named James Thurston Chapman (b. 1826) and would probably have been a contemporary of James DeWitt Clark's father. 4. My great great grandfather had an older brother named DeWitt C. Chapman (b. 1858) Thanks. Bill and et al., Was wondering if any of you had any of the following names in your HOOPER, MORRIS, MADISON, or WAGGONER databases: Pansy Hooper (born between 1885 and 1900 I think); her mother's name would have been Mary. Mary was a widow with one son (Charles Andrew Cox). Mary married a widower by the name of Mr. Hooper, but I haven't got his first name. Pansy also had a half brother (from her father's previous marriage) named Wilson Hooper who lived in Clarksville, TN at one time; and, a half sister is listed in Charles Andrew Cox's obituary as Mrs. Ida Morris Madison Waggoner of Nashville, TN. My aunt remembers that Aunt Pansy had two husbands. The first one may have been named Burks and then second was named Huel Thomas. Thanks. My apologies to the list. I intended to send a personal message to Nancy, and hit the wrong button. Dorothy
Hello Nancy: I saw this on the Trigg list and just want to say HI. I miss everyone in Mayfield, especially the genealogy group. I hear from Beverly and Caroline Milner every now and then. Wish the group were going to Salt Lake this year--and we would join you there. That is the next place Cardin wants to go. Last September we spent 3 weeks in NC, VA and MD--doing genealogy. I think we must have visited every courthouse in VA. Fun! Lots of luck in 2000. Good Evening, John is listed as a ferryman on the 1880 Trigg County census (Bethesda District #2). He is listed with his wife Martha Jane (Johnson) ca 1835-1836 KY and their children james, A.D. (Albert Dillard) and R.?.P. (female). If anyone has any information on John's parentage it would be a blessing!! I would also like information on ferries in that area. I'm sure there must have been quite a few. I'm not only trying to find names of folks but I'm trying to get info on what their lives were like. Have a great evening! Barb in GA

Mary & Trigg County researchers, Thanks for the reply ... it really made me chuckle! The orphan's name was Atha Gregory HUDSON, son of Daniel and Sally (WOOLDRIDGE?) HUDSON. He was born in 1813 in Halifax County, VA (an only child), orphaned in around 1820 and reared in Trigg County, KY. At age 14 learned the harness-makers trade. In 1835 he married Catherine Ann Elizabeth Shipp LANDER, daughter of Henry LANDER and Nancy BRASFIELD. Nancy BRASFIELD was the daughter of Major Wiley Roy BRASFIELD of Clark County, KY. He is in the 1850 Trigg County census under A.G. Hudson. In 1851 he and his family moved to Cedar County, MO. He lived to be 99 years old and died in Humansville, Polk County, MO. Any names sound familiar? Ginette
I am hoping someone can answer my question ... what brought people from Halifax County, VA directly to Trigg County, KY? If someone can answer this question for me, it might help me solve one of my biggest brick walls! Why would a 7 year old orphan in Halifax County, VA end up immediately going to Trigg County, KY? Any comments/suggestions greatly appreciated! Ginette

Hi! I'm researching Ledford/Leadford and Griffin in Trigg County. Audie [email protected]
Tim, I believe these Trigg Co. Randolphs are related to my son-in-law (a Randolph) whose ancestors were in Pope Co., Illinois. I came across info on them once before and asked my son-in-law's mother (who is also into genealogy) and she told me yes, it was the same bunch. She has a website on her Randolphs but I do not know what it is right off. Her email is [email protected] and her name is Kim if any of you are interested in finding out more. I have long meant to get more involved with that line suspecting that eventually I would tie them to my own lines in Stewart Co. but simply have not had the time. jan John 3:16 Listowner: [email protected] [email protected] A 1999 Stewart Co Santa (HO, HO, HO!!! and thanks!) Hi, I am researching the family of Lessomby Nance (usually misspelled as Lessenby) and John and Permelia Garnett Dawson. Lessomby came to Trigg county from Henry county VA around the latter part of 1830. He and the Dawsons lived in or near Roaring Springs until around 1859. They then immigrated to Graves County. Does anyone have any information on John Washington Nance (second son of Lessomby and his first wife Oney Simms Nance) and his wife, Dicy Dawson Nance (daughter of John and Permelia Dawson). I am trying to document family information on this couple - my great great grandparents. Thanks, Nancy
