It is my understanding that Thomas Futrell, born Bertie, NC, 1745, moved to Northampton, then to Trigg in 1804, at that time part of Christian Co. Shadrach & Nathan Futrell, brothers, were among the 1st settlers of Donaldson Creek area. Futrells are not "mine" but intermarry with my Sholar, Thomas, Bridges, Cohoon families, who also settled in the Donaldson Creek area about the same time. Louise

I am posting my biggest block wall mystery that relates to Trigg County. His name is Thomas W. Dennis born 1819, resident of Stewart County. HER name is Levicey Futrell Hendon Dennis, wife of the same, born 1825. And the ONLY person I have found that seems to fit her description is one in an (ahem!) family Bible of your Trigg Futrells... her what I believe to be "papa" (and a bonafide claimed Futrell of Trigg) is indeed buried over in Stewart Co. Parkers seem connected to Futrells, and Parker connections are rampant in this Dennis family, indeed Parker names pass right on down and Levicey's daughters grow up to marry Parkers. Shaws seem to know the Futrells intimately, and you see who gg grandpap married first. I am still looking for a Futrell researcher interested in actually solving the mystery...ya got an entire line of descendents I will be happy to fill you in on, if you ever claim Levicey somewhere... here are some pieces to the mystery.. jan Ancestors of Thomas W. Dennis Generation No. 1 1. Thomas W. Dennis, born March 02, 1819; died May 20, 1884 in Tennessee; Dennis Cemetery. He was the son of 2. Samuel Benjamin Dennis and 3. Cynthia ?. He married (1) Julia Ann Shaw March 31, 1842 Levetia Futrell. He married (2) Levetia Futrell Hendon 5-11-1854 in Stewart Co. Notes Tombstone says "husband of Levice". She lived with Rebecca Parker and was a young widow of David Hendon in 1850 census. Children of Thomas Dennis and Julia Shaw are: i. Henry C. Dennis, born August 02, 1843; died April 20, 1881 in Stewart County, TN; married Martha A. Murphy October 03, 1864. ii. Mary Jane Dennis, born 1844; married Guy Wilson Jackson November 13, 1869. iii. Martha Dennis, born 1847; married James Downs May 16, 1866. Children of Thomas Dennis and Levicey Futrell Hendon are: i. Charlotte Dennis, born May 01, 1855; died July 04, 1918 in Stewart Co. TN; married Christopher (C.C.?) Parker October 09, 1884 in Stewart County, TN. ii. Palestine Dennis, born January 18, 1858; died September 06, 1933 in Stewart County, TN; Dennis Cemetery, Land Between the Lakes; married Robert A. Parker. iii. Thomas Milton Dennis, born November 10, 1858 in Stewart County, TN; died December 24, 1884 in Stewart County, TN; Dennis Cemetery, Land Between the Lakes; married Minnie A. Dunlap January 10, 1884. Generation No. 2 2. Samuel Benjamin Dennis, born 1786 in Maryland. He married 3. Cynthia ?. 3. Cynthia ?, born 1794 in Kentucky. Notes Appears on Tax Lists: 1836- Samuel Dennis- 100 acres-District 8; 1837-Samuel Dennis-100 acres-District 8; 1838-Samuel Dennis-100 acres-District 8 and also William N. Dennis-District 4-1wp; 1841-Samuel Dennis-100 acres-listed as carried over; 1842-Samuel Dennis-100 acres District 8, and also Thomas Dennis 1wp; 1843-Samuel Dennis-100 acres-District 8, and also Thomas Dennis 1wp; 1848-District 7-Thomas Dennis-1 wp. Samuel disappears off the tax lists after 1843. Does this mean he has died? Also our William N., son of Samuel would only be ten years old when he is listed as having 1wp. Does this mean that there is ANOTHER William N., possibly Samuel's brother??? Appears in 1850 census (TWICE. Once as Benjamin, once as Samuel, same man)...does NOT appear in 1840....but is on 1836 tax lists???? How come he disappears off tax lists in 1843??? In 1830 there is a Samuel Dennis 110101-121101 in Davidson Co. In 1840 there is one 20001-00001 in Fayette Co. What is going on here??? Notes On 1840 census as "Silly". Samuel Tanner has her born about 1789 in Kentucky. Children of Samuel Dennis and Cynthia ? are: 1 i. Thomas W. Dennis, born March 02, 1819; died May 20, 1884 in Tennessee; Dennis Cemetery; married (1) Levetia Futrell; married (2) Julia Ann Shaw March 31, 1842 in Stewart County, TN; married (3) Sarah Shaw November 18, 1872. ii. It is cabin fever, folks. No, it hasn't turned into "a chat room" ....you are looking at cyber evidence of the same kind of thing you see among the real folks in the land of your ancestors in real life, ole DNA kicked in...which is probably the spirit Tim WANTS on this list...and I am here to tell you it WORKS...which he has seen in action and so believes in. You jaw and chew on the back porch and you learn a lot, and it becomes infinitely MORE interesting than just names, dates, facts. You also learn MORE than you do if folks just post names, dates and facts. Bear with me here a minute.... When I want my elderly "southern belle" aunts to open up and tell me the names, dates, facts...I do not request them that way...simply won't happen and what I get is pretty cut and dry. Just stuff for a GEDcom...but I can get more if I do it right. Nah...I chew the fat with them and guess what starts to happen? I start to know stories I never heard before, I start to hear names they never mentioned before...pretty soon they drop someone's name, a place, the fact that great grandpa was in the Confederacy (only I would never have found it out going on his given name)...and all kinds of info starts popping out I never knew before. Now with that in mind, what are some tales you have heard tell passed through your family that were simply "jawing", "legends", no names dates or facts...but which OPENED up a whole new line of RESEARCH for you? Bet yall got LOTS of stories on that one... jan John 3:16 Future Resident of the Old Genealogists Home, best kept secret in America Listowner: [email protected] [email protected] Listowner: [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, January 27, 2000 11:04 AM Subject: [KYTRIGG] Chat room vs genealogical exchange > I agree with Bev Cooke's posting of January 27, 2000. My 4th great grandparents were Captain William Rascoe and Rachel (Harrell) Rascoe. Their mariage bond in Bertie County North Carolina is dated December 10, 1777. I have not been able to prove who William Rascoe's parents were. He had one known brother named Teagle Rascoe who died February 24, 1778 while serving in the 7th North Carolina Regiment of the Continental Army. In 1792, William Rascoe swore an oath in the settlement of Teagle Rascoe's military pay settlement account and stated that he (William Rascoe) was a brother of Teagle Rascoe, and the only living brother ( 1792) of Teagle Rascoe. As the heir of Teagle Rascoe, William Rascoe received the back military pay owed for Teagle Rascoe's service as well as the 640 acres of bounty land given by the State of North Carolina to it's soldiers of the Continental Line. The bounty land was in the North Carolina Territory of Tennessee. William Rascoe was a Captain in a North Carolina Militia made up of men from Bertie and Hertford Counties During the Revolutionary War. Rachel Harrell was a daughter of Jesse and Fereby Harrell. Jesse made his will in Bertie County September 19, 1786, probated February 1788. In the fall of 1794, William and Rachel Rascoe sold the last of their lands in Bertie County and moved to Sumner County Tennessee. They were only there a couple of years and then settled in Robertson County Tennessee. William Rascoe can be found in the early deed books of Sumner, Robertson, Montgomery, and Stewart Counties Tennessee buying and selling property. By 1799 He was living in that part of Christian County Kentucky that became Trigg County. He owned property in both Christian County Kentucky as well as Stewart County Tennessee. He died in Stewart County Tennessee in March of 1806 and his estate was settled in May of 1806 (see Stewart County Tennessee Court Minute Docket 1804-1807 for a complete inventory of the estate and list of heirs). Rachel Rascoe and most of her children lived on in Christian (Trigg) County Ky. She is last listed in the 1820 census and on the 1827 tax list. The children of Captain William Rascoe and his wife Rachel were: 1) Ferebee or Phereby Rascoe. She wlisted in her grandfather Jesse Harrell's will but was not included in the list of heirs of her father Captain William Rascoe. It is assumed that she died prior to her father. 2) Jesse Harrell Rascoe born ca. 1780 in Bertie County N.C. and died March 20, 1840 in Dallas County Alabama. His wife was Elizabeth sur-name unproven but believed to be Harrison. She was born in Tennessee. Jesse lived in Stewart County Tennessee untill about 1814-15. He served in a Kentucky Militia during the War of 1812 in a Company commanded by his brother-in-law, Captain Dudley Williams. His name as well as his father's can be seen on several jury list of early Stewart County. About 1814 he moved to Jackson County Tennessee and shortly after 1820 he moved to Dallas County Alabama. 3) Freline Rascoe born ca. 1783 in Bertie County N.C., died ca. 1817 in Kentucky. Jan: Atta Girl!! Y'all better listen to her. She knows what she's talking about. Mary
My main brick wall in Trigg is Wiles. David W. & Sarah Gold Wiles came to Trigg from Mecklenburg Co., VA [one of the "burned counties"] They were married in Meck. in 1837, then went to Trigg around 1850. I have not been able to trace ancestry on David. Any Wiles researchers out there? Louise
