Kathy, I am NOT writing this message in any anger directed at you, but only as a precautionary use to others on the list. I know that it was entirely out of your hands and if you could do it over again, you wouldn't have opened the attachment. ME EITHER!!! But...... Unfortunately, I was one of those IN-fected with that virus. I had just sent you a personal message and received one back from you within two minutes. I thought, "Boy, is she fast!!" Upon seeing what the 'forwarded' message read, though, I did question it, but went ahead and opened it. About two minutes after that, I received your message about NOT opening any attachments from you. That explained why my computer went crazy, but it was too late to stop the damage. I immediately shut my computer off and took it to a computer technician the next morning. At first, he deleted all the applications where the worm was found, but the worm was still there. He then tried running a sophisticated type of de-bugging program to see if that would solve the problem, but that didn't either. The worm had imbedded itself into ALL my files. Everything had to be deleted from my hard drive. When Windows was re-installed the bug was STILL there, as it had infected the computers memory. As you said, this bug is so new that there is not a 'quick fix' for it at the moment. The comp. tech. had to reformat but eventually got my Windows back on. Thank goodness!! The REAL work is ahead of me as I try to use a previous backup to reinstall my files, which are on 150 DISKETTES!! As you explained, this virus is sent to any UNREAD messages in our email. THANKFULLY, I had read my messages and only received 4 while I was searching the internet for information on this virus. Those 4 were from Rootsweb lists and the messages containing the virus were returned to me as undeliverable, since Rootsweb does not accept attachments. But I have heard that some viruses attack your address book addresses, so I placed several calls around the country to see if it had affected any of those. It didn't! I only wish that the 'people' (figuratively speaking) who invent these viruses had to pay each person's repair expenses, plus PAIN and SUFFERING!! Don't you? If I'm not able to retrieve all my three years work, I will be heartsick. My cost to have my computer restored was high. I can't begin to fathom the total amount of money that this virus will have cost before it is stopped. Two good things came from this: 1. - I will not open any suspicious attachments, and especially those with .EXE on the end!! I hope that this helps anyone to think twice about opening attachments. 2. - I will now buy a different type backup. To heck with those diskettes! It is so important to have a reliable backup at least once a month if you save a lot of messages and/or add things to your research programs. No more thinking that things like this won't happen to me! I'll still be around looking for my ARMSTRONG's and DUNN's in Trigg & Lyon Co. Captain William Rascoe (Rasco) was born sometimes between 1735 and 1755 most likely in Hertford County North Carolina. His marriage bond to Rachel Harrell was dated December 10, 1777 in Bertie County. Rachel was a daughter of Jesse and Fereby Harrell. William was a Captain in a North Carolina Militia from Bertie County during the Revoluntionary War. He and Rachel owned land on Flagg Run Branch in the western part of Bertie County. This land was sold in the fall of 1794 and the Rascoe family migrated to Sumner County Tennessee. During the next five years they were buying and selling property in what is now Sumner, Robertson, Montgomery, Counties in Tennessee. By 1799 they had moved into that part of Christian County that later became Trigg County Kentucky. William Rascoe owned property on both sides of the Kentucky/Tennesse line in what is now Stewart County Tennessee where he died in the Spring of 1806. The children of William and Rachel Rascoe were Fereby Rascoe who apparently died prior to her father. Jesse Rascoe born about 1780 in Bertie County N.C., married Elizabeth (possible Harrison) about 1800 in Tennessee. Freline Rascoe born about 1783, married Jesse Fort in Tennessee. Laban Taylor Rascoe born March 30, 1784 in Bertie County N.C., married Sarah Reese January 17, 1804 in Christian County Ky. Margeret Elizabeth Rascoe born about 1786 in Bertie County N.C., married Rev. Dudley Williams November 14, 1805 in Christian County Ky. John Rascoe born about 1788 in Bertie County N.C., married Lucy Taylor July 20, 1820 in Christian County Ky. William Rascoe born about 1790 in Bertie County N.C., married Delilah Lindsay December 15, 1808 in Christian County Ky. and Mary "Polly" Rascoe born about 1797 in Robertson County Tennessee, married Ascher Davis December 31, 1811 in Christian County Ky. Most of the children resided in that part of Christian County that became Trigg County. Rachel was still listed in the 1820 census of Christian County and was on the tax rolls of 1826-27. It is assumed she died before 1830. Between 1813 and 1820 many of the children moved to such places as Ballard County Ky., Jackson County Illnoise, Limestone County Texas, and Dallas County Alabama. Some descendants of the Rascoe family still remain in the Christian/Trigg area to this day. I will be happy to exchange information with anyone interested in this family or those related my marriage to this family. Would appreciate any additional data anyone may have on these lines. James R. Rasco

Hi. I have a Dudley Joiner here that I have some problem with the marriage info. Dudley Joiner was born in 1883. He was the son of James Hutchison Joiner and Melissa Eveline Joiner. He died in Mar of 1917 and is buried in Flat Lick Cemetery in Christian Co., KY. I have two marriages for him, but not much info on either...and they could be to the same woman with a different surname by mistake. He was married "first" to a Gertie Compton...don't have any other info. He was married "second" to a Gertie Sumner on 4 Jul 1909, beyond that I have no further info. Nor do I have any children listed for either marriage. I'd appreciate any help you can offer on this man and his marriage(s). Thanks. Kathy in FL [email protected]
