    2. MICHAEL MARTINEZ
    3. I need some help. I keep hearing that Patience Wester Joiner remarried shortly after the death of Thomas Joyner/Joiner. Thomas is said to have died on the way back to NC to take care of some business. He is said to have died in "east Tennessee" and in another account is more specifically said to have died in Washington Co., TN. Does anyone know the name of the man she took as a second husband? 3. How about any Wester and/or Joiner/Joyner wills...probably through Nash Co.? Thanks. Kathy in FL [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, March 01, 2000 7:40 PM Subject: [KYTRIGG] Trigg Co,-Bertie Co, NC Ancestors For those of you who have ancestors coming to Trigg Co through Northa Carolina. I will do look ups on CD509-North Carolina Wills. This CD has the following books: North Carolina Wills: A Testator Index, 1665-1900 by Thornton W. Mitchell An index to more than 75,000 persons who died and left wills in North Carolina between 1655 and 1900, this volume represents one of the single most important finding-aids in North Carolina genealogy. Organized by surname, you'll find name of testator, county in which the individual's will was proved, date of probate, book and page number where you'll find a copy of the will, and location of the original will. The author also provides a concise history of the probate records of all 107 North Carolina counties. Within the history he details the date of the county's formation, the territory from which it was formed, the dates wills were first filed and recorded, the various record book designations, the status of the records, and the location of the original, recorded and copied wills. · North Carolina Wills And Inventories by J. Bryan Grimes A critical source on North Carolina's pre-Revolutionary War families, here you'll find the full text of 200 wills and 50 inventories. This includes the period of time when the recording of wills was the responsibility of North Carolina's counties. The records not only provide detailed assessments of an individual's material possessions they also note family members, friends, and relationships. · Abstract Of North Carolina Wills, 1663-1760 Compiled from wills found in the Office of the Secretary of State of North Carolina, the abstracts collected here reference approximately 20,000 names. Alphabetically arranged according to the name of the testator, the abstracts usually provide the following information: date of will administration, place of residence, names of plantations mentioned, page number and will book in which you'll find a copy of the original record, and names of family members, witnesses, and probate officers. · An Abstract of North Carolina Wills from About 1760 to About 1800, Supplementing Grimes' Abstract of North Carolina Wills 1663-1760 Arranged alphabetically by county and by surname, this volume supplements a 1906 work by J. Bryan Grimes containing abstracts of the State Wills. The State Wills were those recorded during the period between 1663 and 1760, when it was required that wills be filed in the office of the Secretary of State. After 1760 wills were recorded at the county level. This comprehensive volume covers abstracts of wills from 1760 to 1800 from the entire state of North Carolina. Generally, you'll find the following information: name of testator, dates of will, and names of family members.

Some of his family were still in the area around 1920. The other Averitt line descends from Thomas C Averitt, also from Virginia. Some of the related families are Dabney, Crute, Blane, Hammond, Magraw, Patterson. Thanks

    1. [KYTRIGG] Attn: Helen -- re: John W. Burrell Joiner/ Harriet Knight
    2. MICHAEL MARTINEZ
    3. Helen, the bulk of my info on this marriage came from the Ransey Joiner Jr. book on the Joiner/Joyner family of Trigg Co., KY. I do know that Ransey (he's now deceased) got his information from county records, cemetery records, family Bibles, census records, first hand conversations and correspondence, and other sources. Unfortunately, each piece of information isn't sited individually. Looking at what I have, I don't have a particular date of marriage and only have the one daughter listed. I have the daughter listed as Ella Mae Joiner-Moss. My guess is that he got the information from cemetery records for the daughter Ella Mae as this is the only child he has listed (1897-1917) and doesn't even give the marriage info for Ella Mae, if such exists. I even went back to the book to see if I missed anything and there isn't anything else. I went back to the acknowledgement page of the book and it listed Murray State Special Collections as a place of research that he used heavily. In the introduction, Ransey stated that both he and his father were the Superintendent of Maplewood Cemetery. Another source he used was the Trigg County Handbook -- Gateway to the Jackson Purchase by Mrs. Eurie Pearl Neel. In my research, I occasionally hear someone mention some book on Flat Lick Cemetery. Unfortunately, I don't have this and don't even know the real title of the book or pamphlet..or index...or whatever it is. Someone on the mailing list probably would know, I'd like that info myself. Hope that this helps some. 2. Yes, I had found the Moss childs death record, but could not prove it was my Harriet as the mother. Harriet, as well as all of her siblings are still living with their mother in the 1880 Trigg census. So I always looked for a marriage record after that date. Richard was killed in 1873 in Roaring Springs, I have newspaper account of that and also the inventory of his estate and sale of same. It does not list the children by name. Sue Vier, from Roaring Springs, her mother was my Dad's Aunt, told me she was pretty sure Harriet married a Joiner, but could not recall a given name. Sue's son married Elanore Joiner in Trigg, but I have never been able to connect with her to see if she can shed some light on the problem I have a reprint of the Jackson Purchase book by Neel. Also have copy of Vital Stats for Trigg Marriages 1874-1910 and Deaths 1861 + 1874-1910. Do not find Harriet or her Joiner guy in those. Thanks for your info. I'll keep trying to pin it down. Helen
