Surnames: Armstrong & McCoy Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hBB.2ACE/207.1.1 Message Board Post: You asked if Elmira was proven to be a McCoy, and the answer is yes to the best of my knowledge. She is listed is some of the old birth and death records as Elmira McCoy being her maiden name and Andrew Armstrong as the father. I have seen these files at the Trigg County Library, in the Genealogy section. We are still working to prove the Andrew Armstrong line. There had been several errors made in some very early research on him and because of that, it took a lot of people in the wrong directions. I suspect that Elmira actually came from one of the McCoy Families that settled in Stewart County, TN before she was ever married to Andrew. One deed filed in Trigg County, KY states that Elmira was from Christian County, KY before the dealing in the property. I also know that Trigg County, was also a part of Christian County prior to the property records. Good luck and if there is anything else that we can help you with, please feel free to ask. Mildred Armstrong Shemwell, daughter of Andrew and Elmira Armstrong, was my ggg grandmother through my maternal line. Just wondering if you every received answers to your questions on their parentage or have more information on this line? I have been doing genealogy for a long time, but never traced this line in particular and would love to know more. Did you prove Elmira being a McCoy or not? Any more certain that they came from NC? I found reference in Christian County to a Benjamin and Jean Armstrong coming from NC in 1804 with a large family and wondered if there could be any connection there. I would love to hear anything you have to share.

    3. I have no inf. on Minnie other than she was the 1st wife of James Milton Lowe. (I got this inf. from a descendant of John Robert Lowe, who lives in CA). Milton was married to Sarah Jordan about 1870 in Ky. Married to Cynthia about 1890 in Ky. James Milton was born in 1850 in Tennessee, so it is possible that he married in Tennessee the first time. He had to be only 20 yrs old when he married Sarah Jordan. And since his children by Minnie were born in 1912-1916, Minnie could not have been his first wife. His son, John Robert, was born 1891 to Cynthia McWaters, so he had to have married Minnie after this. (All these dates don't seem to add up, do they?)
