In the Christian County Family History Book of 1986 on page 128 under a sketch of John Clark. Sarah Clark married Isaac Davis, son of James and Hannah Ramsey Davis. On page 149, James Davis was one if not the earliest settler who lived in the south eastern part of this county on the West Fork of Red River. His land had been surveyed for Col. John Montgomery in 1785 and assigned to James Davis. Davis sold off a portion of this 1120 acre survey to other settlers and finally sold the remainder of his land when he moved to Missouri after 1820. Dr. John F. Bell purchased the Davis land from one of the Davis sons-in-law. James Davis was married to Hannah Ramsey, daughter of Josiah Ramsey of Wythe County, VA. James and Hannah were the parents of several children. The foundation of a water grist mill built by James Davis in 1809 was still visible in 1884 according to Addison C. Catlett as reported in Perrin's History of Christian County. The grist mill was on Montgomery Creek, which had been named for Col. John Montgomery whose wife Phoebe, was a sister of Hannah Ramsey Davis.
