COLEMAN [s/o Edwin Newton COLEMAN & Eliza WATKINS] Among the thousans of noble young men who have fallen victims to the horrid war through which we have passes...(volunteered) in the town of Clarksville...Most of his military life was spend in VA., his native state...battling for the old Dominion and the South...brought home in a prostrate and helpless condition...When he was passing...his brother, E. W. [Edwin Watkins] COLEMAN of the Tenn. Conference (was present)...the only regret he expressed in regard to his death was that he could not live to comfort and care for his parents in their declining years. He died in Todd Co, KY. Sep 12th 1865, aged 33 years & 17 days...(signed) George R. BROWDER. Obit. “Edwin Newman COLEMAN was an old and worthy member of the M.E. Church, South. He was born in Dinwiddie Co., VA. Sep 20, 1797, and was the son of Williamson COLEMAN& Mildred [HARDAWAY]. In his early manhood he was happily married to Miss Eliza WATKINS [?d/o Joseph WATKINS & Elizabeth ATKINSON] ...he embraced religion..in Oct 1830 ..at Piney Grove Camp meeting, in Dinwiddie Co, VA...In 1842 he emigrated to KY and joined the church at Bethlehem, on the Logan Circuit. His residence was a considerable distance from the church...his last rational answer (was) to the earnes inquiry of his son, the Rev. E. W. [Edwin Watkins] COLEMAN...Bro.
