Nathaniel Terry's will of 1837 lists the names of about 40 slaves. I would like to find the origins of these slaves. Five of these slaves: Henry, Dick, Fowler, Sampson, and Moses were later sold to George Augustine Washington (1815-1892) of Robertson County, TN. Washington owned a large tobacco plantation called Wessyngton in Robertson County, he also owned a small farm in Todd County, KY managed by about twenty slaves and an overseer. In 1860 Wessyngton held 274 slaves and was the largest tobacco plantation in America. After emancipation many of these slaves remained on the Wessyngton plantation. Dick Terry retained the Terry surname and his descendants are very numerous in Robertson County, TN. Any assistance regarding the origins of the Terry slaves will be greatly appreciated. I would also like any information on the origins of Nathaniel Terry and his family before they came to KY.

Tim The Abraham Hurt you have in your data base is brother to Ely that I have married to Sterling Willis. I have little on his family. Am I correct that Elijah, Howard, Melinda and Margaret are his children. Am not familiar with Mary Jane. The West you mentioned could be West Dandridge Hurt, father of Abraham & Ely. He died in Todd County ca 1816. I have looking for proof of that fact. Nina Williams

Nina: I wish that I could help you with your Sterling Willis but I can't but I do have a Sterling Willis, born about 1759 in Pittsylvania, Virginia and died in 1839 in Todd County, Kentucky. My Sterling was married to Sarah Payne. I don't have any other Sterling Willis in my data bank but they must have been related somehow. I also have several Hurt's in my family tree but I don't have an Ely Hurt. The Hurt's that I have are Abraham [1802 to 1870], Elijah [1833 to ?], Howard Finley [1831 to 1886], Melinda [1835 to ?], Margaret [1837 to ?], Mary Jane [1821 to ?], and West [? to ?]. If I can be of any help to you let me know. Tim Mitchell papawith8@aol.com Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
