Hello. Has anyone done research on the founders of the Elkton Baptist Church? I have reason to believe that a major brick wall in my research (my gggrandfather, William H. KEELING) was one of the founders. If so, somewhere in the church records the name of his first wife and children by her may appear, and also possibly the name of the church in the area from which he moved to Todd County. Unfortunately, I am unable to travel to the area to research this. If anyone may have done research such as that which Dan Vass has done on Bethel Baptist Church in Fairview, Christian County, it could be of great assistance to me. Thanks for your attention. One more tonight. Looking for any information on LEVI RICHMOND & his wife, SARAH DORRIS. On the 1850 Todd County Census their children are listed as MARTHA, LUMTHA (?-female), JAMES R., JOSIAH A. & SARAH J. I have plenty of Dorris family history. On this I'm trying to connect RICHMOND'S. Would love to share information. Thanks. Jenny at eddnick@aol.com
I know you all are tired of seeing my postings for Grisham folks, but I'm trying desperately to connect this crew in Todd County, so please bear with me. This time I'm trying to find info on a P.L. GRISHAM, JOHN GRISHAM & WILLIAM GRISHAM, all residing in Todd County on the 1840 census. Would love to know who these guys are. Hope to hear from someone. Thanks. Jenny at eddnick@aol.com
Janet, I have no information to give you on Coleman Shelton. I am a HURT descendant and was wondering if you knew how he got the name "Moses Hurt Shelton" as the Moses Hurt, Jr & Sr are in my direct line. Both from VA. The Shelton family has married into the Hurt family in several generations. Was wondering if there was a connection. Nina Williams
Brad, Thank you for the information. That helps me out. I did not know where Mary was buried. I had heard that Harvey disappeared and was never heard from again. I am descended from Harvey A. L. Jones through his son Christopher Columbus (Lum)Jones and second wife Harriett Belle (Hattie)Tomlinson. Their daughter Ollie was my grandmother. She married Cy B. Jones (different line). Ollie and Cy moved to Kewanee, IL around 1926. They had five children. Eula May, O.B., Daisy Belle, Eva Ovadeane, and my father Billie Eugene. Cy died of pneumonia in Kewanee in 1928. He is buried in the Henderson Cemetery on Antioch road in Christian County KY. Ollie died in Neponset Twp., Bureau County, Illinois in 1946 and is buried in Pleasant View Cemetery, Kewanee, Henry County, IL. If you would like more information, please let me know. Hello Todd County Researchers: I am new to the list, and am just now beginning to delve into finding supporting documentation there for my Sheltons. I descend from Charles "Coleman" Shelton who died there I am told in 1855. I believe he is the Coleman in the following household in the 1850 Todd Co Census http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ky/county/todd/census/1850Dist2.txt 21 417 417 Shelton M. C. 33 M Va 22 417 417 Shelton C*any E. 47 F Va 23 417 417 Shelton Coleman 75 M Va 24 417 417 Shelton Catharine 49 F Va 25 417 417 Shelton William B. 12 M Va 26 417 417 Shelton Thomas 10 M Va 27 417 417 Shelton Penelope 8 F Ky 28 417 417 Shelton Parthina L. 6 F Ky 29 417 417 Shelton Piety C. 4 F Ky 30 417 417 Shelton Lucy J. R. 2 F Ky I descend from his son Moses Hurt Shelton who lived in Todd Co from about 1834 until about 1837 when he moved to Lawrence Co Missouri, with his wife and second cousin Nancy Clark Shelton. I am looking for documentation that my Moses Hurt Shelton is the son of the above Coleman as I have been told. I wonder if there is a will/probate abstract or transcription for Todd County that might have information on a will or probate documents for him. It is also possible there might be a deed from his father to him about the time that he arrives. I am new to Todd County KY research and not familiar with the various books of abstracts that are available and thank you in advance for any assistance. If I understand the website correctly, this list is the place to request lookups. Footnote: If there are any Shelton or Coleman researchers on the list, I'm interested (a) in who the other folks in the household are; and (b) whether Todd County might hold the clues to Charles Coleman Shelton's COLEMAN ancestry. He was the son of Beverly Shelton and Anne Coleman who were married 1869 in Pittsylvania Co. He died 1825 in Pittsylvania. I have no information for his wife, however, and note there are Colemans in Toddy County. I'm really only familiar with the family of Moses and Nancy, and just beginning to document what I've been given on their ancestry. I haven't yet searched either Pittsylvania or Amelia Co VA for Coleman information. Thanks in advance, My best regards, Janet (Baugh) Hunter

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/gBB.2ACE/1106.2 Message Board Post: Mr. Jones, I would be interested to know how you descend from Harvey Jones. As you may or may not know, Harvey left his wife and family, which explains why there is no cemetery marker for him but there is for Mary. She is buried at Goshen Cem. (born Aug 1822-died 24 July 1884). I have NO PROOF but I believe Harvey may have been a son (or at least a close relative) of George Jones (b. 1774) and wife Agnes Mann (b. 1784). They lived in the same general area and came from the SAME AREA of Virginia that the Brumfields came from. George & Agnes married in 1798 in Campbell County, VA. James Brumfield & Mary Keeling married (as you stated) in 1805 in Halifax County, VA. Mary Keeling was supposed to be the daughter of Thomas Keeling who died in Halifax County, VA in 1831. Hope this helps. Brad

Their children were EMMETT RICHMOND, ANNIE, ONA, LOTTIE BELL, MARGARET, WALTON & VIRGINIA. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. This is one of many connections my Grisham line has to the Todd Co. Richmonds. Thanks. Jenny at eddnick@aol.com

Still looking for information on my mystery guy, BENJAMIN R. GRISHAM. On the 1880 Todd Census Ben was age 24, living with his mother, Eleanor (Ellen) and younger brother. That would make his year of birth about 1856. Have no idea what happened to the boy after that. Too many Benjamin Grishams out there to distinguish which is mine. All of his brothers, except one and another mystery, James, stayed in Todd. Hope someone out there can help. This one really has me stumped! Thanks for your time. Jenny at eddnick@aol.com
The church located next to the monument is the Bethel Baptist Church. I would think that the Elkton church is located in Elkton, Todd Co.
Hello, I have a friend who is seeking info on the Elkton Baptist Church. Her gggrandfather, William H. Keeling was one of the founders of the church. Anyone out there have any info that might help her. Thanks Dan Vass.

Can anyone tell me what the street address is for the Todd County Courthouse. I must be overlooking it on the site. Also, how much should I send to have 3 lookups on the Guardian Bond books. Wish I could just buy the darn things. No telling how many times I'll need them with so many extensions of my family in Todd. Thanks for the help. Jenny at eddnick@aol.com
