Frances S. Johnson was born April 3, 1804 in America, Kentucky, which I have recently learned is in what is now Lee County. She married Daniel REEDER in Todd County KY, May 5, 1825. Daniel REEDER's first wife was Mary NICHOLS, who died after the birth of their second son. A Todd County KY Deed book lists the heirs of John JOHNSON: his widow, Elizabeth, of Todd County; John W. JOHNSON, William B. JOHNSON, John P. and Sarah Johnson GUTHRIE, William and Margaret Johnson WITTY, and Daniel REEDER [who was granted power of Attorney], all of Adams County Illinois. Frances S. JOHNSON REEDER, was not mentioned but had recently given birth to her tenth child at the time of this hearing (September 1848). I believe that she was unable to attend and therefore her husband acted on her behalf through his power of attorney. John JOHNSON's wife Elizabeth (and presumably mother of Frances) has been listed on census records as born in SC, but I need to know her maiden name. Census records dispute whether John was born in Ireland or SC. Can anyone help me fill in the blanks? Roberta Sharp [email protected] (alternative) [email protected]

Hi. Two inquiries in Todd County: Bernard EDWARDS, abt. 1787 in Lynchburg, VA married Patsy COLEMAN? and moved to Todd County about 1808. Their kids: William, Mary Ann, Gillie, Booker Bernhard, Louisa Fontaine, Peyton G. Bernard, Sr. signed his will in 1869 in Todd County. The daughter Gillie m. John ATKINS in 1842 in Todd County and died in childbirth 3 years later. Any info on the Edwards clan would be appreciated. The other requesti is much more recent. Gillie's grandson John Thomas PORTER m. Mary Josephine ADAMS 13 Sep 1893. Mary's parents were James and Sarah ADAMS. He was born in 1838, died 4 Dec 1904. His grandson insisted his wife was a Todd (based on how he and his brother were named) but Baker also makes sense using that criteria. The only concrete information I've been able to dig up on James and family is census records. The story is that they were a wealthy family and had a number of slaves before the civil war, but I've never found any evidence. Family members have visited the grave in Elkton, but I haven't found that either. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks. Amelia Morrow [email protected]

Susan, Here is what information was in the Chrisian Co. book, the Hurt and Shelton names did not have a bio listed in the book, but there was references to the Hurt & Shelton names in it, not the exact names you were looking for. I don't know if they are associated with your line or not, but I thought I would send them to you to evaluate. P354--Alexander P. Campbell, when he was 12 years old went to Elkton, Todd Co. and with Messrs. "Hurt" & Jones learned the trade of saddler......... P247 & 248--The boundary of the original Hopkinsville School District No. 37 was worded as follows: "Beginning at B. B. Jones to R. G. Whitaker, J. S. Malone, William Mason, J. L. Tutt, Samuel Harrison, Wyatt Rembrough, E. Love, E. Wall, Wallace Ware, J. W. A. McGarvey, Mrs. Lorin, John B. Knight, C. A. Shepard, "William Hurt", Thomas Hayes, William Pendleton, Benjamin Gray, John McCarroll, James Stephenson, George O. Thompson, George Wood, J. H. West, G. B. Long, W. W. Rossington, H. Hopper, K. Twyman, Stephen Trice, E. B. Richardson, Thomas Clark. All the above names and others are added to the schools of Hopkinsville. P65--Under Later Settlers--there was a fair list of names including "the Sheltons", there was no given names, just the surname. P138--Under Tobacco--The honor of having grown and shipped from the county the first hogshed of tobacco is claimed for several persons. Some claim that William Fagin and "Alexander Shelton" shipped the first hogshed from Eddyville on the Cumberland River to New Orleans. P347--Martha (Bronaugh's) Shelton--This was found under the Bronaugh's bio and has a list of her grandfather, parents, siblings, etc. James Bronaugh married Miss Isabel Hart, a native of Virginia. They had the following children: Martha M., who married Dr. Shelton, moved to Texas and there died, leaving four children; Malcolm H. died, leaving a wife and one child; David B. died, leaving a wife and three children; James B., now a resident of Hopkinsville; William T., of Hopkinsville; Judith Ann, deceased, and Jane M. Bronaugh. (I didn't know of the Hurt name could have been misspelled.) P626--Elizabeth (Martin) Shelton--This was found under the Presley O. Martin bio. It has a list of her relatives. She was born to Presley & Elizabeth (O'Daniel) Martin and she was listed as marrying a "Shelton", no further information on her marriage. If you want the complete bio's on "Martha (Bronaugh) Shelton" or "Elizabeth (Martin) Shelton" please let me know. I had another person contact me looking for the same name of West Dandridge Hurt, a Dr. William McGhee. I hope this helps you in some way, Have a good day, Cathy D.....
Cathy, Many thanks for your efforts. I don't know if any of these names fit in yet, but I'm saving them for future reference. The Sheltons especially I haven't done much with yet. This is the only resource I am aware of at this time for puchasing film.
