Hence, the different surname from her mother. You may want to check for a marriage of a Susan RYAN to a ________ MCAULIFFE, and any children, surnamed MCAULIFFE. That would have been an incentive for a young widow to marry again. What does the 1860 census indicate? Any young MCAULIFFE children in the Edward LILLIS household?
