Found the following info: "Shelby Co., KY Wills & Estates 1792-1817", Chas. M. Franklin CRAIG, JAMES WB 3, p.449 dtd 15 July 1816 recorded Aug 1816 Children not named Exec.: Wingfield Bullock, John Newland, John H. Bullock Wit.: John Newland, W. Bullock _____________________________________________ "History of Shelby Co., KY", Geo. L. Willis "The first clerk of the court was James Craig, who seems to have been succeeded in 1799, by Plumer Thurston, then by Jack Newland, he by James S. Whittaker, in 1812." (p.114) (See below) Chapter V, County Clerks (p.223) William Shannon (Pro Tem) 1792-1793 James Craig 1793-1816 John Newland 1816-1818 (others) James Craig is also on the list of members in the local Masons for the years from 1800 to 1830 (p.263) I believe that Willis made an error in succession dates of county clerks in his first entry (p.114) and that the listing of county clerks is more correct. I have several wills in the 1813-1815 range that show James Craig signed as the clerk. Hope this helps George ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sarah" <nell4@comteck.com> To: <KYSHELBY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 16, 2000 9:50 AM Subject: [KYSHELBY] CRAIG > Looking for information on James Craig county clerk 1810....name found on family deeds in Cumberland Co., KY
