Forgot to mention that book has three references to DAVIS; "Janey Davis, dau. of William Williams, will dtd 11 Dec 1800, recorded Feb 1801" + other survivors and listings for "Ezekeal Davis, WB2, p.434, 1811" and "Thomas C. 3. OK, citation is "Shelby Co., Kentucky Wills & Estates 1792-1817", Charles M. Franklin, Heritage House, Indianapolis, IN, 1986. Book is an 8 1/2 x 11" softback containing various wills from the Shelby Co. clerk's office will books. Those given in detail have survivors, witnesses, etc. Also includes a list by name of other wills and appraisals that give approximate death date but not neccessarily any survivors. 1. [KYSHELBY] Re: Franklin's Book
    2. Hi: I noticed that Franklin's Book of Wills was mentioned in a request to the Shelby County Mailing List. I wonder if there is a will, deeds or other papers included in that book pertaining to William Sarvis. He was my ggggrandfather, born in Virginia, and moved to Shelby County about 1800. His wife was Mary Shelton. They had 11 children--all born in Shelby county. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks, Trudy Swain

    3. Molly-- Although Mrs. McGinnis is no longer the clerk, she is still well and is still doing some research for genealogists in Shelby County. She lives next door to a distant relative of mine in Shelbyville. She was very helpful to me about a year and a half ago on some Burnett research. I think Ms. Perry has her address, and can refer you to her. 3. Found the following info: "Shelby Co., KY Wills & Estates 1792-1817", Chas. M. Franklin CRAIG, JAMES WB 3, p.449 dtd 15 July 1816 recorded Aug 1816 Children not named Exec.: Wingfield Bullock, John Newland, John H. Bullock Wit.: John Newland, W. Bullock _____________________________________________ "History of Shelby Co., KY", Geo. L. Willis "The first clerk of the court was James Craig, who seems to have been succeeded in 1799, by Plumer Thurston, then by Jack Newland, he by James S. Whittaker, in 1812." (p.114) (See below) Chapter V, County Clerks (p.223) William Shannon (Pro Tem) 1792-1793 James Craig 1793-1816 John Newland 1816-1818 (others) James Craig is also on the list of members in the local Masons for the years from 1800 to 1830 (p.263) I believe that Willis made an error in succession dates of county clerks in his first entry (p.114) and that the listing of county clerks is more correct. I have several wills in the 1813-1815 range that show James Craig signed as the clerk.
