He was a member of the Fairview Separate Baptist Church, Jamestown, KY. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Sullivan Akers, Jamestown, KY; one son, Mike Akers, Lexington, KY; one daughter, Sandy Bell, Crestwood, KY; two sisters, Eva Shary, Hampton, VA and Vera Knight, Mt. Washington, KY; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were Wednesday, August 27, 2003 at the Fairview Separate Baptist Church with Bro. Donnie Coffey officiating. Interment was in the Akers Cemetery. H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
