I received information that your James Henry Stephens married Ann Whittle, daughter of William Whittle SR. and Rebecca Rachel Sherill. Annie was born @ 1839, so that would make her 10 years his senior, if the dates are correct. This doesn't seem unusual for the time, though. I have found alot of woman who are older than men, more often than the other way around (William SR. being an exception!) William SR.'s parents were Robert B. and Susannah Lewis Gossage Whittle. Joseph Whittle, b. 1748, was William SR.'s father. No one seems to know who Joseph was married to. Matthew and Elizabeth (Betsy) Warren Whittle were Joseph's parents. Matthew's father John, b. 25 JAN 1685(?) in Wrightington, Lancashire, England, sailed to America on the ship "The William and Margaret", at age 26, on 11 SEP 1711 from Weymouth, Eng., and settled in Louisa Co., VA.
