    1. Announcing South Central Kentucky DNA Project
    2. Granuaile Lythande O'Flanagan
    3. This email is to announce that after giving it considerable thought, I have established a South Central Kentucky DNA Project. It is not a surname based project, but hopes to provide an opportunity for individuals from that region of the state to explore such potential issues as surname changes and non-paternity events such as unrecorded adoptions and out-of-wedlock births through the comparison of Y-DNA signatures that are passed from fathers to sons. Since only genetic males carry the Y chromosome, only males are tested. It also is hoped that it may be helpful for individuals who want to compare how their maternal lines may be connected through the use of mtDNA, which is passed from a mother to all her children but is not passed on through sons. Both males and females may be tested for mtDNA but it represents only the participants direct maternal line. Counties that will be covered are: Counties included are: Adair, Barren, Casey, Cumberland, Green, Hart, Lincoln, Monroe, P! ulaski, Russell, and Wayne. If you have been tested as part of a surname project at the company which is doing the testing, you now have the option to join a second project in addition to that one which allows for a participant to be a member of both projects. If you are interested in joining, please visit http://sckentuckydna.flanaganfamily.org where project info is located and a join link exists. 3. Hi Gary, I am glad you started the South Central DNA Project. I hope you get a lot of participation, especially around Russell County. As you know I am already in the HART DNA Surname Project. Can I transfer my test results to your new project or would I have to be retested? Thanks.
