Surnames: Pierce Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XBB.2ACE/1787 Message Board Post: In the 1860 slave schedule a Franklin Pierce is named as a slave owner. My great-great-great grandmother's name was Sarah Pierce and she was born in 1820 in VA. She was married the first time in Illinois at the age of 14. She goes to California and is there during the gold rush. In 1854, she takes a boat back to New York. She has a son named Richard Franklin Kelley. Richard Franklin is not named after his father's side of the family. Sarah is in Missouri in 1860 and she is listed as owning one slave, an 18 year old female. In 1870 we find out the female's name is Dolly and she was born in Kentucky. I am trying to find who my great-great-great grandmother's parents or siblings were. It is probably a long shot, but with Franklin Pierce being a slave owner in Kentucky, and Sarah, who has named her son Richard Franklin, and has a slave named dolly that was born in Kentucky, is it possible to somehow connect Franklin Pierce with Sarah?

    3. I would imagine that it's a possibility. Did Franklin leave a will? Quite often persons of means leave wills that name children and slaves. ----- Original Message ----- From: <ljames62@osagecon.missouri.org> To: <KYRUSSEL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, July 26, 2005 4:07 AM Subject: [RUSSELL COUNTY, KY] Franklin Pierce > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Pierce > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XBB.2ACE/1787 > > Message Board Post: > > In the 1860 slave schedule a Franklin Pierce is named as a slave owner.
