    1. James Paul Rogers (WW I) and James C. Rogers (WW II)
    2. Tucky
    3. I seek information about the death date and place of burial of James Paul Rogers, whose name appears on the Monument Square plaque (Jamestown KY) honoring Russell County soldiers who died or were killed during 20th century wars. His is the fourth (last) name in the middle column of World War One casualties. (I will be more than happy to send a scanned photo of the plaque to anyone who asks. If requesting via email, please use "Memorial Square plaque" as the subject line.) According to the "Registration of Veterans' Graves" for Russell County, James Paul Rogers died January 21, 1920 and was buried in an "unknown cemetery" in France. The appearance of his name on the World War One casualty list on the above-mentioned plaque and the 1920 date of death present a puzzling conundrum. Can anyone shed any light on the specific place burial; also, whether or not the death date given above is correct, and if so, why his name appears on the Memorial Square plaque? As stated in a response posted by Mr. Lester (Sept. 8) to a similar query, the name of another James Rogers appears on the plaque, this one in the World War Two section. However, his name was James C. Rogers, not James R. as erroneously recorded in "Russell County, Kentucky: History & Families," page 35. That his name was James C. is documented by his birth record, the 1920 and 1930 census records of Russell County, and the "World War Two Honor List of Dead and Missing Army and Army Air Force Personnel." This James was the son of Henry C. & Aletha "Letha" (Karnes/Carnes). He died in the Hawaiian Islands on April 15, 1942, and his death was reported in the April 23, 1942 edition of the "Russell County News." Thanks, Jim

My father was wounded (lost his right index finger to a German machine-gun bullet) in October of 1918, but remained under treatment in Paris until around 1920 as the medics tried to save as much of the finger as possible. 3. Hi, Shadrack Williams Stephens was my gr, gr grandfather by his second marriage to Nancy Emery Cannifax. Mary Winfrey was his third wife. He was having children by her while still married to Nancy. I recently found their wedding date, just a year before he died in Overton Co, TN. I doubt if Shadrack was a Dr. I know his son Erasmus, my gr grandfather had home made remedies for everyone. I would be interested in anything you might have. 2. Hello Marilyn, Are you sure you want Darnell Cemetary? I think you are or might be looking for the PARNELL Cemetary and if that is the case you then have three choices Old Parnell cemetary ,the current new one, Or Parnell baptist which is listed in KY Cems on KY/Genweb which I know nothing about except that its in Parnell outside of Monticello. But the old one is another story I stumbled upon it on accident back in 2004 on a research trip to Monticello. It is a shambles. But I was able to locate a list of those who where interned there from the library and also I took pictures of the stones left that were readable. I still have them. But it would take me a few to dig them out due to a hard drive crash on the old puter. But if you are interested please reply directly to me (Rose _WitchroseamI@aol.com_ (mailto:WitchroseamI@aol.com) . ) And Ill look them up. Also check on KYGENWEB for cemetaries. _http://www.kygenweb.net/counties/kymap.html_ (http://www.kygenweb.net/counties/kymap.html) _http://www.rootsweb.com/~kywayne/wayne.html_ (http://www.rootsweb.com/~kywayne/wayne.html) _http://www.rootsweb.com/~kyrussel/russell.html_ (http://www.rootsweb.com/~kyrussel/russell.html) You might find something to help there. There is a book in the Monticello Library that has all the old cemetaries and their residents from before "The redistricting" that took place after they built the Cumberland Falls dam back in the early 1900's. Many of my ancestors were from the Russel Wayne and Whitly Co Region and it is I know a mess to figure out. 3. Betty, Another interesting story about your Moses Harkness Wilson. When he married Sherwood Stephens and Malinda Hopper in 1837 in Russell Co, KY he put my gr, gr grandfather's name Shadrack Williams Stephens on his marriage return as the groom. Shadrack was married to Jemima Roy at the time and the father of a son. This incorrect marriage is still on the marriage records of Russell Co, KY. 3. Betty, I show no connection of Moses T. Wilson to our Wilsons of Russell Co, KY. The Wilsons, Hoppers, Harris and Stephens families all came from Henry Co, VA and intermarried for years. A lot of my Wilson info came from the book by my cousin William Surber Wilson who got his information from my grandmother Stephens first cousin Dr. Walter Wayne Smith. I have been to the collection of Dr. Smith in Rowan Co, NC four times. A lot of his files of over 35,000 papers contain personal letters from descendants of these families.
