I don't know too much yet about the Grider family but wanted to ask if you knew anything about the Tobias Grider who married in Parke County Indiana to Mary Jane Cammack on July 13th 1837? He is on the 1850 census of Davis County Iowa. He states that he is 32 years old so born in 1818. I'm not sure but think he is born in Indiana. Who is this Tobias Grider and who is his father? Do you have the siblings of your Tobias? I think that my Irwin H. is a brother to this Tobias that married the Cammack as my Irwin also married in Parke County Indiana to an Emelia Cammack. Thanks for ANY help. Carol

I am interested in Rock House Bottom. In 1876, Solomon Johnson Nichols wrote a letter to his niece, Julia, in which he mentioned having received a letter from Tom Nichols requesting him to visit one of his daughters who lived there on the Vining farm married to a Ross. We do not have any first names for this couple. Could you possibly have any information on these and history of Rock House Bottom? Thank you, Ruth ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Surf the web up to FIVE TIMES FASTER! I did it in Gold ink, with Ornaments for each Ancestors entry. Thank You Very Much! Your Help Was and Is Most Appreciated. Thank you. But in some of my notes from my cousin, (the other Rosemary) the information has not yet been corrected. So sorry to confuse. I was so excited to find a Russel Co Whittle, I pulled up the wrong note. By the way Ma'am, I just got back the Marriage Licence Request on James Henry Stevens and Annie Whittle from Russel Co. But they did not have the record. :-( But that is ok. Now at least I have the bond info. I will retry with that. And Again Thanks So Very Much For Your Help Sincerely, Rose

There has always been a bit of confusion between William Jr. and Sr., because Sr. married such young women, and so may times. Don't want to make any KY jokes, because much of my family is from Russell Co. I do have a Nancy, b. 1833, daughter of William Sr.. The only info I have on marriages is that she might have married William S. Polston before Debby did. William and Nancy had no children and were living apart by the 1860 Census. She was living with her brother John Jackson Whittle and his wife, Nancy Jane Richards Whittle.

We should compare notes on our own. My info comes from letters in the collection of Dr. Walter Wayne Smith in Salisbury, Rowan Co, NC. Did William Whittle, Sr have a daughter Nancy b. ca 1833 who married Wesley Stephens born 1820, son of John Stephens and Martha Stephens? To make things more confusing John Stephens and Martha "Patsy" Stephens were first cousins. Although they had 14 children all of them were normal. John was the son of Welcome Stephens and Nancy and Martha was the daughter of Dudley Stephens and Nancy Cornell (my direct ancestors). Welcome and Dudley were brothers who lived in Jabez. Rosemary

William Whittle, Sr. was married to Milly Stephens. William Whittle Jr. was William Sr.'s son from his first marriage to Rachel Sherill. My gggrandfather, John Jackson Whittle is William Jr.'s brother. William Sr. and Milly Stephens had one daughter Elizabeth, and she apparently went by the name Stephens on occassion, and by Whittle, as well. William Sr. married his third wife Ferriby Jane Owens, 34 years his junior, on 9 APR 1859. Milly died @ 1863, so they were divorced sometime before 1859. William Sr., b. 1801, d. 1863. William Jr., b. @1821, d. @ 1907, married Darcus Luttrell on 19 Feb 1843; married Serene Pate, 28 SEP 1865. William Jr. had 13 children.
