My Stephen Shepherd died in 1825. I think it would be difficult for him to be your great grandfather. I am 71 and he is my great, great, greatgrandfather. Stephen's son, James died in 1837, James' son, Elza Creal, died in 1912; Elaz's son Wm Thomas (Bill) died in 1948; and my father, Lilburn W. died in 1974. Is there a connection there somewhere? Linda: I have looked thru all my records and I haven't seen any reference to this so far. We would almost have to be looking in Virginia or Pennsylvania don't you think? In this time frame anyway. Possibly in Tennessee or North Carolina - the McGowans were in all of these states. I don't think we would be looking in Kentucky. I have some mistakes in my Stephens file. I have Ann Stephens married to Moses Wilson, b. abt. 1756 VA, d. abt. 1851 Nelson Co, Ky. I have an Anna Stephens married to Moses Wilson, b. abt. 1788 Henry Co, VA, d. abt. 1851 Russell Co, Ky. Children Antippie Elizabeth, William, James & Thomas. I also have a Susannah Stephens b. abt. 1773 Henry Co, VA, d. about 1851 Adair Co, Ky. married to Nathaniel Wilson, May 19, 1799 Henry Co, VA, born abt. 1773, Henry Co, VA, died before Dec 4, 1848 Adair Co, Ky. With the names being so similar, I was wondering if anyone had any information on these Stephens. Thanks. Betty Putnam

One is John C(ole), one is John W. (John C.'s father) and John N., son of Cornelius & Belinda. John N. is 16. John C. is living with his brother James A., and they're both single. It looks very probable that John C., son of John W. & Rebecca Blankenship is the John that married Eliza Coe. I'm willing to go with that connection unless something else turns up to refute it. I will look for Eliza tonight in the 1880 census. Thanks for helping make this connection.

I have found some very limited information through familysearch.org regarding Cordelia McCray. I have reason to believe that her birthday is 1897 rather than 1892 as some records have, but am still investigating. I believe there is still one living sister in Lexington, KY area.
