WE UNDERSTAND THAT MR. LAWLESS HAS NOW BEEN DEAD FOR SOME TIME. THIS INFORMATION CAME FROM THE "RUSSELL COUNTY KENTUCKY CEMETERY EXTRACTIONS" BY IRENE SHEPHERD, COMPILED IN 1998. THE LISTING OF GRAVES INCLUDED WILLIAM R. AND SALLIE HILL, MY GREAT-GREAT-GRANDPARENTS. ANY INFORMATION IS APPRECIATED. THANK YOU. STEVVI
Thanks to everyone who helped me. I finally called Bernard Funeral Home and he told me how to get there......He knows my husbands family and in fact knew where some of them are buried in New Friendship. He grew up on the next farm to my husbands gr grandfather.........Grandville King Foley. Anyhow, he says you take 127 and go above Humble Cemetery, just past the Russell Co. Elem School and take a right at the first road.......this road (he couldn't remember name) forks and you bear to the left on the black top road and the Church & Cemetery are on the left......... Anyhow, now to find my husbands gr grandfather & gr grandmother whom I know are buried there because I have their tombstone picture among some others that are on the listing. Marilyn P.S. Thanks again everyone.
I was just at New Friendship this past spring. I can't give you directions because I don't know the area, but I will speak with someone this afternoon who does know it. I will send directions as soon as I can get the person on the phone. I have looked at my list of Russell Co. Cemeteries and find no New Friendship Cemetery. Found Friendship Cemetery near Friendship Church on Rt. 80. I have no list of buriels there. Sorry cannot help further. Catherine
Should have also noted that I have photos for some of cemetery inscriptions that I've transcribed, mostly Flanagans though. :) http://flanaganfamily.org/cemeteries.html Gaire O'F. -- Gaire MacRuaidhri Ó Flannagáin gflanagan@adelphia.net Web Page: http://flanaganfamily.org DNA Project Page: http://dna.flanaganfamily.org
Yes, but unfortunately not much for Russell County. I've checked this for a year or so and it only has the Phelps Cemetery at present. :) They put up an announcement in Fall 2003 that they are unable to add or correct data in it, though they are continuing to accept data. Hopefully, they will get started back. Folks may also want to check the USGenWeb archives at http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ky/russell/russell.html - there are quite a number of listings there, many contributed by Mary Wade and Garry Bell. At one time I had all of my cemeteries on computer. I had some problems and put them on disk. Now I can't find any New Freiendship ones. I know I had a few but I'm sure I didn't record the entire cemetery . After the Historical Society started working on the Cemetery Books I didn't see any point of followiing behind them. I offered them all I had. Seems strange to me. They [and I'm a member] just went off in all directions doing their own thing. And until they are published they wouldn't let you smell one of them. A few are trying to do everything so I haven't been in over a year I do still pay my dues. The result of that is I can't even find the ones I have. I'm still sort of looking. But I feel like warmed over crap today and won't be looking! Maybe eventually. If we could get ahold of Garry Bell I bet he has it. Verlman has removed himself from polite society [probably a good thing for society!] . He was supposed to be coordinating this. Even before his wife [first] got sick he was not very cooperative. So there! mf ----- Original Message ----- From: Jack and Marilyn To: KYRUSSEL-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, July 23, 2004 11:25 AM Subject: [RUSSELL COUNTY, KY] New Friendship Church Cemetery in Russell Co., KY The other day I sent this message, but I've been having trouble with my ISP and not getting my messages..........I was hoping that this was one that was stuck in cyberspace. "Russell County, Kentucky, Cemetery Extractions," compiled by Irma Shepherd, 1998, lists a Hill Cemetery on "Highway 1058 property of Forest Lawless," where my great-great-grandparents, William R. and Sallie Antle Hill are buried. I understand Forest Lawless is deceased. Can anyone tell me exactly where this cemetery is located and/or who now owns the property? I'd like to visit these graves on a trip to Russell County later this summer. Thanks, Stevvi Stites Cook Bean Station, Tennessee

I note in KY marriage records that in 1804 there was a marriage between a Rhoda Flowers and Basil Berry, but never found anything for the Douglass marriage. Not sure if this is the same Rhoda, but interesting, all the same. It seems he may have followed suit with his own children.

Victoria Gray married Tom Marcum. My mother was Louise Marcum. Oliver Jefferson Gray married Lunette Stephens. She was my mother's Aunt and younger sister to my grandmother Abbie Stephens Marcum. Charles Perry Upton and Lucinda Ellen Gray had a son Alpha Lee who married Flora Doris Stephens daughter of Doctor Columbus Stephens and Harriet Rector. Doctor Stephens was the younger brother of my grandmother Abbie Stephens Marcum and Lunette Stephens Gray. Flora gave me lots on this family and I am willing to share. Rosemary Shields Kennedy
Tex was married to James "Big Jim" Humphrey. He wasn't big, but somehow or other was know in Burkesville (Cumberland County, KY) by that name. Martha Jane Morgan had a sister named Rebecca Tabitha Morgan. Becky was my great grandmother. She married Frank Wolford "Bill" Humphrey, brother to Big Jim. Becky and Martha's parents were Isaac Mayfield "Ike" Morgan and Mary Cape. Mary was Ike's second wife. I wish I knew more about Ike. I haven't been able to locate the Morgan's in the 1900 census and in 1910 Mary is living with her youngest daughter, Dorinda (who married a Blakey). I'm not sure when Mary died, but I think it is after 1920. She was living in Olga with her son Thomas Morgan, if I remember correctly, in the 1920 census. Tex and Becky were close in age and Jim and Bill Humphrey were close, so the families lived together in Marrowbone (Cumberland County) in the 1900 census. Pretty soon after that census my great grandparents moved to White County, TN and then to Fentress County, TN where they lived until they died. According to my great aunts, the families visited whenever they could and "Uncle Jim and Aunt Tex" were great favorites among the relatives. Tex died in Indiana and is buried in Burkesville. I think I met George once at David and Reevie Humphrey's. David was the youngest son of Big Jim Humphrey. I'll be happy to share whatever I have on the family.
