A fellow lister shared this website, "Find a Grave", on Netscape, with me and I thought many of you might not know about it. I just typed in the surname and the state and found a relative within 2 minutes. I also bookmarked it for later follow-up research. Hi Charlene, I was wondering where in Germany your Wellhausen came from. This is not my family but my husband's family came from Germany. I have a book "We Will Go to a New Land - The Great East Frisian Migration to America, 1845-1895" by Robert H. Behrens. It is now out of print but there are a lot of Heinrich's mentioned in it. It seems most of these people came into the U.S. by the way of New Orleans. This book tells the struggles they encountered in their journey. My husband's family came by boat up the Mississippi River to Illinois. There are others who went to Texas and all the way to Minnesota. You might check with your library and see if you can get a copy of this book. Good luck! Tn. in late 1800's. My father and uncle remember their father, Vainus Branch b.1897 had an uncle Harlon Lawless, who lived with them in Jackson Co. Have found one reference on TNGENWEB site for Jackson Co. of death certificate for Teakley Branch showing Thomas & Amanda of Ky. as parents. Vainus's fathers name was Will Branch; children of Will-Vainus Edmond Branch; Leddie Branch (McDowell); Ruby Branch; Ernest Branch. Trying to find connection, guess is Will's spouse might be a daughter of Thomas & Amanda?
Since many Russell countians have connections with the Flanagans, I thought that some folks here might be interested in the results of the project thus far. We appear to be well on the way to identifying the ancestral haplotype of the Russell County line of Flanagans. Though we only have a few participants from the Russell County line, three of these are exact matches at 12 marker. 25 or more markers are better, but given the relative rarity of the number of allele repeats at a particular marker [26 repeats st DYS390], a solid paper trail, and geographic residence, it seems likely that this is the genetic signature that Bryant Flanagan passed on to his sons and may be that going back further with John himself and before. If it goes back into the distant past, it may prove invaluable for identifying our likely origins in Ireland. Also, I would certainly encourage participation in the project - participants in the surname project must be descended in a direct paternal line fro! m the Flanagan ancestor, as comparisons are based on the fact that fathers pass their Y-chromosome to their sons. Maternal DNA testing [mtDNA] is available through the project but would not have anything to do with the surname itself. Results are online at http://flanaganfamily.org/FlanaganHaplotypes.html - take a look. Also, I have sent registration materials to Dublin to register the Flanagans as a clan with The Clans of Ireland Ltd., a genealogical, cultural and historical group that is recognized by the Irish government. I will psot more on that once I receive acknowledgement from them, on the Flanagan and Russell County lists. Hi, I am new to the Wells list. My mother's maiden name is Wells. She was born to John Cris Wells and Noma Emaline Brown, Davis, Wells, 10/4/1938 in Jamestown, Russell Co. KY. I am intrigued by this Asa Wells "Ace" Rogers name. How does he fit into the Wells line? I figure that he must fit in somehow by his middle name being "Wells." I have an Elizabeth Kimbler b. 1836. She married William Jordan Wells m. 1/14/1858 in Russell Co. KY. I have no other husbands listed for her. I also have one son born to them, Jesse Wells b. 11/12/1858. William Jordan Wells was a half brother to my 2x great grandfather John Wells b. 1823 Russell Co. KY. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
