    1. Bowlin
    2. Bowlin, Bowling Need help verifying correct lineage of Sarah Ann Bowlin b. 1820 in Tennessee. She married James Miller and is living in Wayne County, Kentucky in the 1850 census next door to the family of William (b.1794 Tn) and Elizabeth (b. 1804 Tn) Bolen. James and Sarah moved to a part of Adair County, Kentucky which later became Russell County. Possibly she is descended from the Bollings which are descended from Pocahontas and John Rolfe. Records show Benjamin Bowling III in Adair County, Ky. by 1810. Benjamin was descended from Benjamin II and Sarah Hancock. He is listed on the 1830 census for Adair County as being between 50 and 60 years old with 4 girls and 4 boys and his wife. Also listed on the 1830 census are: George Bolin, between 60 and 70 years old, and Isham Bowlin, between 70 and 80 years old. The 1860 Russell County census shows: 1. Sarah Ann b. 1820 married to John Miller with 7 children. 2. John C. Bowlin b.1819 wife,Ann Forrest of NC, 8 children, and possibly a sister - Lucinda Bowlin, age 42. Believe this is John Crittenden Bowling, son of Benjamin III. 3.Henry J. Bowlen b. 1823 with his wife Rachel Bernard and 5 children. Believe this is Henry Jackson Bowling, brother of John Crittenden. 4.William A. Bowlin b. 1829 in Tennessee with his wife mary Hart and 5 children. 5.John Bowlin b.1838 with his wife Catharine and 2 children, Michael and Tabitha. 6.Julia Ann Bowlin m. to Richard Perkins with 6 children. 7.Cyrus Bowlen b. 1827, wife Mary Eastham and 6 children (including a son named Isham.) Published records show that the children of Benjamin Bowling III and Prudence Callicoat were: Isham, Benjamin Page, Betsey, Dicey,Lucinda,John Crittenden, Sarah, Mary, Henry Jackson, and Talitha. I am sure that the Henry J. and the John C. Bowlin listed on the 1860 census are brothers, but according to the records I have, they did not have a brother named William, however, the father of Benjamin Bowling III was Benjamin II and he did go into Tennessee from North Carolina. Benjamin II was married to Sarah Hancock and their children were:John, Sallie, Isaac, Susan, Benjamin III, Dicey, Betsey, and possibly William and Isham. My puzzle is this: Is the Sarah listed on the 1860 census the sister of Henry J and John C or is she their cousin. I believe she is their sister. And what is the relationship of William and the John born in 1838. William and Sarah show as being born in Tennessee. Did any of the other children of Benjamin II go into Adair County, Ky? Children of Sarah Bowlin and James Miller were: William F. b. 1844 James H. b. 1846 m. Sarah E. Hart, daughter of Socrates Hart, son of Robert Hart. Sarah Ann b. 1848 Elizabeth b. 1848 John L. b. 1851 Ransome b. 1855 George W. b. 1858 Would appreciate any help anyone can give. Glad to trade information. Jan Wilson Kings Mills, Ohio

    1. mtDNA Results - Surnames: Flanagan, Hill, Perkins, Edmonds, Bernard
    2. Hi, I just recently received results for my mtDNA and for my fathers. Since these are passed ONLY from mothers to their children and not from fathers, my fathers is that of my grandmother Queen Victoria Edmonds daughter of Nancy Edmonds who was daughter of Ameia Bernard if my info is correct in the last. Mine is from my mother, Ima Bernard, daughter of Mary Brown. Her grandmother was Ida Coffey, her gggrandmother was Mary Ann Hill, and - if info is correct - her ggggrandmother was Beasy Perkins. Descendants in direct female lines should match these results pretty closely or exactly. My fathers results showed that he is in haplogroup H [Helena in Bryan Sykes terminology], with mutations the following mtations from the reference sequence used: 16263C, 16325- [this means that there was a deletion there, i.e., nothing], and 16519C. All descendants in a female line of Nancy Edmonds and Beasy Perkins likely share these. My results showed haplogroup H as well, with two mutations from the reference sequence: 16293G and 16519C. Descndants of Mary Ann Hill in a direct female line and Beasy Perkins likely share these values. Just wanted to share this with others on the lists in case they were descendants in case anyone descends from these female lines. G. O'F. -- G. 3. A few years ago they gave all the roads in Russell County a name so this may be a new road name... The White Oak Church Road begins where the road curves sharply to the left by Cyrus Anderson's place. The White Oak Church Road goes straight on toward the Sam Coffey (swimming) Hole and comes back out on Hwy 80 over in Adair County. The cemetery I am thinking of is across from a field that apparently used to belong to some Haynes (since I have heard it referred to as the Haynes field by the current owner) This may be the Haynes/Williams cemetery... By the way- Acree Road, the road that curves to the left, goes toward Montpelier. ----- Original Message ----- From: <AleneBrad@aol.com> To: <KYRUSSEL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, December 20, 2004 10:43 AM Subject: Re: [RUSSELL COUNTY, KY] Cemeteries > I am puzzled by the reference to White Oak Church Road. 3. These maps may be easier to make sense of. Look on the Adair County map where it joins Russell County. White Oak Road is just below the parkway in Adair County. Notice where it goes into Russell County then look at the Russell County map. here is the Adair County map http://ukcc.uky.edu:8002/%7Emaps/adair.gif here is the Russell County map http://ukcc.uky.edu:8002/%7Emaps/russell.gif ----- Original Message ----- From: <AleneBrad@aol.com> To: <KYRUSSEL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, December 20, 2004 10:43 AM Subject: Re: [RUSSELL COUNTY, KY] Cemeteries >I am puzzled by the reference to White Oak Church Road. 1. Cemeteries
    2. I believe the little cemetary you are all talking about is now called the Grider Cemetary. It's just up the road from where the old Blair School was and around a bend. You turn off into what appears to be a driveway. My dad agrees with the fact that there used to be a house there. On the right side is a little graveyard. It sits right by the road. It used to be called the Richards Cemetary back when the Richards owned the land. There is a huge mixture of Richards and Griders buried there along with a lot of others. Not sure if there is a listing in the Cemetary Book of this particular little graveyard. Really, if you are not looking for it, you will miss it. My great-grandparents are there, along with my grandmother and great-great grandparents etc Last time I was there, 4 years ago, my hubby marked the coordinates on his GPS just so we could find it another time!
