Would anyone on the list know of a Lewis family in Rowan County going back to Virginia, possibly the Gen Andrew Lewis family. Any info would greatly be appreciated. Marianne Dillow Illinois
Hi Marianne, My Rowan County Lewis family comes thru Thomas Lewis and Hannah Hopkins. They were married in Washington Co VA in 1784(?). We think Thomas' father was a William Lewis and we have no further documentation. Family lore is that Thomas was born in Wales but I have doubts. I think it may have been his father who was born in Wales. Thomas migrated to Morgan Co, KY where he died in 1849. He was granted a Revolutionary War pension as he was an Indian scout for George Rogers Clark. I have done my DNA testing to see if I could tie in with some of the other Lewis lines. I have a very close match with another person whose grandfather was born in Wales. So we do have a definite Wales ancestor. I have read about Gen Andrew Lewis but have no documentation that we are related. There are at least 4 other Lewis lines in our area (Eastern KY) which no doubt we are connected but have no proof. I have two aunts who were Lewis and married Lewis who were different lines. Who are your Lewis ancestors from the 1800's and where were they located? Thanks, Gary Lewis, cousin? ----- Original Message ----- From: "marianne dillow" <mdillow31@verizon.net> To: <KYROWAN@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, March 23, 2008 9:31 PM Subject: [KYROWAN] Lewis Lineage > Would anyone on the list know of a Lewis family in Rowan County going back > to Virginia, possibly the Gen Andrew Lewis family. > > Any info would greatly be appreciated. > > Marianne Dillow > Illinois > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > KYROWAN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > > -- > Internal Virus Database is out-of-date. > Checked by AVG. > Version: 7.5.519 / Virus Database: 269.21.7/1328 - Release Date: 3/13/08 > 11:31 AM > > >
