I've just made a substantial update to the marriage record section of the Rowan County USGenWeb site. http://tpettit.best.vwh.net/rowan/rowan-mg.html The week of May 20-26 I went on vacation to Morehead, and spent Monday through Friday at the courthouse, transcribing marriage records from 8 am to 4 pm (when the courthouse closes), and then heading over to the library to photocopy obituaries until the library closed. (Saturday I went to a Hall reunion and Sunday to a McBrayer-Pettit reunion.) Mainly I concentrated on adding details (ages, birthplaces, parents, witnesses, etc.) from Books 3 through 7 (which were already online in names and dates only form.) Full details have been added for books 3 and 4 (1897-1903), and for about 1/3 the records in books 5, 6 and 7 (1904-1912). Also about 50 additional records were added for books 8 through 13 (1912-1921). When I got back home to California, I reformatted the web pages and added a listing by bride. So for all of you long-time researchers who've stopped visiting the Rowan County marriage pages because you already got all you could from them, you might want to take another look. I'll be submitting the obituaries I collected to the Rootsweb message board as time permits, and will announce the names here as I do so.
