I'm the list owner, but I rarely do anything with the list except remove obsolete email addresses. While I wouldn't characterize this list as having "dried up after a while", that is only because it has never been very active. There are very few queries posted here. There is a large (about 70%) overlap in the subscriber list with the list of people who have signed up to be notified of all submissions to the Rowan County GenConnect board. Since the GenConnect board is threaded and much easier to review old queries on (the email lists are archived, but few people browse email list archives), nearly all Rowan County queries are posted to the GenConnect board rather than to this list. (I'd estimate that the Rowan Co GenConnect board gets about 4 to 8 queries per week, while this list gets at most one or two per month.) This leaves this list serving mostly as a place to post announcements, such as family reunions, updated web sites, publications, etc. Most of the officers of the Rowan County Historical Society are subscribed, and they occassionally post RCHS news. So this list is a lot different in flavor from the KYBATH-L list, which gets on the average several queries per day. The main reason for the difference is probably that Rowan County is younger than Bath County, and therefore has a smaller pool of genealogists to serve. Bath is a "parent county" to a lot of other counties; Rowan isn't. So it is feasible for someone interested in Rowan County genealogy to sign up to be notified of all posts to the Rowan Co GenConnect board. Whereas you'd have to be a very serious Bath County researcher to be able to handle the volume of mail if you asked for all of the Bath Co GenConnect queries to be forwarded to you. (I am subscribed to the KYBATH-L list, but am not notified of posts to the Bath County GenConnect boards.) Hope this answers your questions! -- Teri
