Soldier is in Carter County, very near the county line. Since it is closer to Morehead than to Olive Hook, people living in Soldier often got their marriage licenses, etc. registered in Rowan County. There are four Caroll/Carroll/Carrell marriages recorded in Rowan County between 1884 and 1908: http://www.best.com/~tpettit/rowan/marr-C1.html#Ca-table Since the clipping was sent as part of an article entitled "A Century Ago in Rowan County", it seems most likely that it occurred June 20, 1900, but I would appreciate it if someone in the Knott Historical Society could confirm that speculation. -- Teri
